March For Life - 01/22/10

On Friday, January 22nd, members of Christ the Savior traveled to Washington DC for the annual March For Life. The march is an annual pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital on the anniversary of the decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. Many marchers also protest the use of euthanasia.

The March for Life event began at noon with a rally held on the Washington Mall just west of 7th Street West, or midway between the Washington Monument and Capitol Hill. The march itself began at 2:00 p.m., north on 7th Street NW to Constitution Avenue, then east along Constitution Avenue to 1st Street NE (thus moving between the Capitol's Senate Wing and the Senate's three office buildings), then south on 1st Street NE to the Supreme Court.

Among the speakers at the march was His Beatitude Metropolitan Jonah, who reminded the gathering that the dignity and value of the human person is bestowed by God Himself at the point of conception, not by man-made laws at the point when it is convenient to do so. He then thanked the many women who attended the march, some of whom shared their regret in aborting their unborn children. Finally, the Metropolitan spoke of God's infinite love and forgiveness, and the healing and restoration which the Lord grants those who turn to Him in repentance.
