On Sunday, February 8, 2026, Christ the Savior held its Annual Parish Meeting. The agenda, reports, budget, and draft minutes for the meeting are available below. A central focus of the meeting was continued progress toward building the new temple, including updates on permitting, fundraising milestones, and the launch of the Ambassadors’ Program to engage every household in the effort. Parishioners were encouraged to participate prayerfully and voluntarily as the community moves closer to the active construction phase. On Sunday, Feburary 8, 2026, we asked the Lord to bestow a blessing upon Taylor, Elisha, Arcadia, and Sybil Applegarth as they continue the ministry of candle-making for Christ the Savior. Using the traditional dipping method, they craft new candles from the remnants of those previously offered in worship, carefully layering wax until the desired diameter is reached. This invaluable ministry not only reduces the church’s need to purchase new candles but also ensures that every remnant of these sacred offerings is reverently repurposed. May the Lord abundantly bless the Applegarth family for their dedication, skill, and devotion to this holy work!

On Saturday, February 7, 2026 after Vespers, our parish gathered to offer prayers for Matthew Williams as he prepared to depart for bootcamp. Surrounded by the church community, including his mother Judy, we asked the Lord to bless and protect him in his training, to strengthen him in faith, and to comfort his loved ones during their time apart. As a token of our love and a reminder of God’s abiding presence, Matthew was presented with icons, a prayer book and a prayer rope. May Christ guide and guard him in body and soul, and may he always know the support and prayers of his parish family.

On Friday, January 23, 2026, parishioners from Christ the Savior joined other Orthodox Christians and countless people who gathered for the March For Life in Washington, DC. The march is a pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital near the anniversary of the infamous decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which was thankfully overturned in 2022.

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels. The St. Michael's Party also coincided with the parish Thanksgiving meal with the traditional foods and fixings. On Sunday, November 9, 2025, we bid farewell to Vera Yevsukov, who is taking leave of our parish. Vera has served Christ the Savior in numerous capacities over the years and will be sorely missed not just for her labors and dedication to the church but even more so for her presence in the parish family. On Sunday, November 2, 2025, Christ the Savior Orthodox Church held a Special Parish Meeting following the Divine Liturgy. The Long-Term Planning Committee presented updates on the new temple project, highlighting parish growth, architectural plans by CJK Design, and progress in fundraising exceeding $220,000. Parishioners heard insights from other successful building efforts and reflected on the importance of faith, unity, and generosity as the community works together to realize its vision for a new church.

On Sunday, July 27, 2025 a number of parishioners from Christ the Savior went over to St. George's Greek Festival in Ocean City at the Convention Center and enjoyed traditional Greek music, food, and culture. We thank Fr. Christopher Xanthos and the community of St. George for the warm welcome and beautiful day!

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, we bid farewell to Samuel Oleynik as he prepares to relocate to North Carolina. During his time at Christ the Savior, Samuel faithfully sang in the choir and served the parish in many ways. As a token of our gratitude and prayers, we presented him with an icon of St. Herman of Alaska—known as the North Star of Christ’s Holy Church in America—for by his holy example he shows us how to follow Christ with steadfastness and humility. We asked St. Herman’s intercessions that the Lord would continue to guide Samuel along the path of salvation. On Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, which was attended by many visitors including Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki, who offered an inspiring homily on rejoicing in God's goodness in all circumstances, our Treasurer, Ioana Davidson, joyfully announced that we have reached our $100,000 matching donation goal for the building fund. All those who gave so generously and sacrificially toward this effort were warmly thanked, as the goal was met nearly five months ahead of schedule. May the Lord bless the benefactor who offered the match and all who have returned a portion of God’s blessings to help build a new temple to His glory.

On Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, we had the annual Blessing of Chariots (cars, trucks, bikes, etc).  The blessing was served by Archpriest Joseph Oleynik, Priest George Sharonoff, and Archpriest John Parsells. It is a custom of Orthodox Christians to have their cars blessed both when newly acquired and on or near the feast of the Prophet Elias (July 20th), as he ascended as if into heaven on a fiery chariot. We thank God for a truly blessed day!

On Sunday, May 18, 2025, after the Divine Liturgy, we had our annual Cross Dive, which opened the swimming season at Christ the Savior. The faithful prayerfully asked the Lord God Almighty to bless the parish pool and the fellowship it provides, throwing in the life-giving Cross of Christ to sanctify the water. The precious Cross is then retrieved by the children of the parish, remembering the words of the Lord, "Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me." Crosses were retrieved by Thea Wyant and Alexander Parsells.

On Thomas Sunday, April 27, 2025, the children of the parish played basketball with Fr. John and some of the parishioners in the church parking lot. The weather was a little windy but beautiful and everyone had a marvelous time. Glory to God for a great day!

On Thomas Sunday, April 27, 2025, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. In the Orthodox churches, Easter eggs are blessed by the priest at the end of the Paschal Service, and distributed to the faithful. The egg is seen by followers of Christianity as a symbol of resurrection: while being dormant it contains a new life sealed within it.

During the daily services of Great Lent the Church doubles the readings from the Psalter (Book of Psalms).  As our parish was not able to offer all of these services, a group of women, organized by Georgianne Mathews, divided the Psalter into sections so that it could be read together each day. On Bright Wednesday, the Women's Psalter Group met at Cami Milite's house for dinner, fellowship, and to discuss their experience of reading the Psalter together. Many thanks to all who participated in the group and glory to God for all things!

On Bright Friday, April 25, 2025 parishioners and friends gathered at the DeArmitt's home for a Paschal Party. The weather was beautiful this year, the fellowship was as great as ever and this festive celebration of Pascha was enjoyed by all. We give glory to God Almighty and many thanks to Justin and Alexis for opening their home to everyone and punctuating our Bright Week fellowship with a splendid party!

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, the faithful gathered for the Midnight service, celebrating the Feast of Feast, Holy Pascha, which commemorates the Resurrection of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. More than 250 people gathered for the celebration of the liturgical services which were followed by the blessing of foods and a festive meal in the hall and rectory. We greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

From April 13-19, 2025, the faithful gathered at Christ the Savior to celebrate the solemn liturgical services of Great and Holy Week, which commemorate the Lord's voluntary Passion, Cross, Death and Burial.

On Great and Holy Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the faithful gathered for the Mystery of Holy Unction, the anointing with holy oil for the healing of soul and body. The Church’s practice of Holy Unction dates back to Apostolic times, see James 5:14.

On Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025 the faithful gathered to celebrate the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. A procession around the church was made while the faithful bore in their hands palms in honor of the festive occasion. Following the beautiful divine services, a traditional fish meal was offered for all present. Glory be to God for all things!

On Lazarus Saturday, April 12, 2025, we welcomed Kaleb Evans and Emily Tamosaitis into the Orthodox Church through Holy Chrismation. On Sunday, March 30, 2025, parishioners and friends took part in a Cornhole Tournament during the fellowship hour after Divine Liturgy. The 20 teams with 40 total players competed in a March Madness-styled, bracketed tournament which resulted in a good time had by all. On March 9, 2025, we celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy with a procession of icons to the Archway at our roadside entrance during the Divine Liturgy. There we had a reading of the ancient Synodicon, the affirmation of the Orthodox Faith that our salvation is proclaimed in both words and images, and the faithful recited the Nicene Creed. We congratulate all who celebrate on this day!

During the first week of Great Lent the faithful gather for the reading of the Great Canon of Repentance, written by St. Andrew of Crete in the 8th century. In this canon, St. Andrew wonderfully weaves our own personal story of sinfulness and restoration in Christ with the accounts of the sinful and righteous of the Old and New Testaments, giving us greater awareness of not only the history of salvation for the people of God, but also greater insight into how we must participate in the writing of our own personal salvation history.

On Sunday, March 2, 2025, following the Divine Liturgy, we had the beautiful and grace-filled Rite of Forgiveness before entering into the Holy Forty Days of the Great Fast. During this solemn ritual we ask and receive forgiveness from each other and the Lord, who says, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.” (Matthew 6:14)

On Sunday, February 23, 2025 with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Tikhon, the 2025 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2025 Council, Ryan Harris was elected Junior Warden and Anya Drobish was elected Secretary. May the Lord bless them all!

On Thursday, February 2, 2025 we celebrated the Great Feast of the Meeting of Our Lord in the Temple, which commemorates the Lord’s presentation into His Temple 40 days after His birth in the flesh. This feast concludes the Nativity season. This feast is also called Candlemas as we bless candles on this day.

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, we had the baptism of Amelia Kate, daughter of William and Megan Wilkinson.  William was also Chrismated on this day, entering the Orthodox Church to the great joy of his family and the entire parish. Amelia Kate has taken St. Tatiana as her patron and William has taken St. Basil the Great. We extend our congratulations to the entire family, as well as the sponsors, Rdr. On Sunday, January 12, 2025, Archpriest Joseph Oleynik blessed the rectory in the Parish Center. Following the service for the annual blessing of a home, there was an open house in the rectory. On Saturday, November 23, 2024, a group of catechumens, inquirers, and parishioners embarked on a spiritual journey to Washington, D.C., visiting three iconic Orthodox cathedrals: St. Sophia Cathedral (GOARC), St. Nicholas Cathedral (OCA), and St. John the Baptist Cathedral (ROCOR). This pilgrimage was part of an intensive period of study and spiritual preparation for sacramental reception into the Orthodox Church. We are deeply grateful to the cathedrals for their warm hospitality and to the tour guides for providing such insightful and enriching tours!

On Sunday, November 10, 2024, we had the baptism of Ephraim James, son of Stephen and Kateri Parrish. We extend our congratulations to the entire family, including the grandparents, Bill and Kathy Parrish, as well as the sponsors, Joseph and Ginny Seeley. On Sunday, November 3, 2024, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels, and they also enjoyed special activities. The St. Michael's Party also coincided with the parish Thanksgiving meal with the traditional foods and fixings. Many thanks to all who made this year's St. Michael's Party and Thanksgiving meal such a great success!

On Sunday, October 13, 2024, Anthony and Joanne Patrick celebrated their 50th Anniversary of Holy Marriage. A prayer of thanksgiving was offered to Almighty God for all of His countless blessings throughout their shared life together. We heartily congratulate the Patricks on this historic milestone and we ask that the Lord continue to bless them for many more years to come!

On Sunday, October 6, 2024, we celebrated the feastday of St. Innocent of Alaska and at the end of the Divine Liturgy there was special blessing for the choir director, members, and readers in honor of Church Musician Sunday. This blessing takes place annually on the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Romanus the Melodist (October 1st). Appreciation was expressed to all who fufill this sacred work and flowers were bestowed upon Alexis DeArmitt, our choir director, in recognition of her very fine service to Christ the Savior. We ask that Lord's divine blessing upon them all so that they might continue to worthily fulfill this vital ministry.
We were happy to welcome Mitred-Archpriest James Parsells, from Ss. Peter & Paul in Manville, NJ, who traveled down to be with us as we celebrated the namesday of his son, Archpriest John and the 74th birthday of Archpriest Joseph Oleynik. Glory to God for a wonderful day!

On Sunday, September 22, 2024 the Women's Group went on a 90-minute sunset cruise in Lewes, Delaware. The evening was beautiful and the fellowship much appreciated by all. Thank you to Barbara Kaloroumakis for organizing the event and Cecilia Wyant, Robin Armstrong, and Laurie Morsey for the photos! Glory to God!

On Sunday, September 15, 2024, a soccer match was held at Showell Park between St. George's Greek Orthodox Church of Ocean City, MD and our own Christ the Savior Orthodox Church of Berlin, MD. The match, hopefully the first of many, ended in a 5-5 draw and a great time was had by all! We thank Fr. Christopher Xanthos and the faithful of St. George's for an enjoyable game and a beautiful evening together. Glory to God for all things!

On Sunday, September 1, 2024 we celebrated the Church New Year. According to Holy Tradition, Christ entered the synagogue on September 1 to announce His mission to mankind (Luke 4:16-22). Quoting Isaiah 61:1-2, the Savior proclaimed, “The spirit of the Lord is upon Me; because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to proclaim release to captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord...”

On Saturday, August 31, 2024, members and friends of Christ the Savior spent the day at the local Jolly Roger Splash Mountain Water Park in Ocean City.  The weather was beautiful and we thank God for a truly refreshing day! Join us next year!

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, which is the annual festal commemoration the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of the Virgin Mary, the Birthgiver of God. After the Divine Services parishioners traveled to the local Chick-Fil-A to continue to the celebration and fellowship. Glory to God for a beautiful feastday!

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, faithful parishioners and guests gathered to celebrate the Great Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Following the Divine Liturgy, we had the customary blessing of grapes and other various fruit. Glory to God for a beautiful feastday!

On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, we had a pool party and evening swim at the church.  The event was to help us get ready for the Dormition Fast (starting August 1) and also to celebrate the Namesday of Fr. Joseph (July 31 – Noble Joseph of Arimathea). Good strength for the Fast to all and many blessed years to Archpriest Joseph!

On Sunday, July 28, 2024 about thirty parishioners from Christ the Savior went over to St. George's Greek Festival in Ocean City at the Convention Center and enjoyed traditional Greek music, food, and culture. We thank Fr. Christopher Xanthos and the community of St. George for the warm welcome and beautiful day!

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, we had the annual Blessing of Chariots (cars, trucks, bikes, etc).  The blessing was served by Archpriest Joseph Oleynik, Priest George Sharonoff, Archpriest John Parsells, and Protodeacon Gregory Moser. It is a custom of Orthodox Christians to have their cars blessed both when newly acquired and on or near the feast of the Prophet Elias (July 20th), as he ascended as if into heaven on a fiery chariot. We thank God for a truly blessed day!

On July 9 and 10, 2024, the funeral services for Matushka Annice Oleynik were held at Christ the Savior Church, Berlin, MD. Matushka Annice had departed this life on Saturday, July 6, at the age of 70. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Archpriest Joseph Oleynik, her children Melanie (James) Paulick, Julianna (Anthony) Cario, and Alexis (Justin) DeArmitt, and her grandchildren, Sophia, Jacob, Mary, Elijah, Daniel, Joseph, Thomas, Evelyn, and Micah, her mother, Matushka Evelyn Hubiak, and her sister, Larice Nescott.
A memorial was served by Metropolitan Tikhon on Tuesday, July 9, and the funeral was offered on Wednesday, July 10; both services were attended by numerous clergy and faithful from near and far. Matushka Annice was buried at St. Tikhon's Cemetery in South Canaan, PA on Thursday, July 11.

It is with deep sadness, but firm consolation through faith in Jesus Christ as our Resurrection and Life, that we share with you the news that Matushka Annice Oleynik, surrounded by her husband, Archpriest Joseph, her daughters, and their families, gave her soul into the hands of the Lord at 3:36pm on Saturday, July 6, 2024. An obituary and the funeral arrangements have now been made available below. May the soul of the newly-departed handmaiden of God, Matushka Annicia, dwell among the righteous and may Her Memory be Eternal!

On Sunday, June 23, 2024, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. As is customary, the Vespers with Kneeling Prayers was served immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We congratulation all who celebrate on this high holy day!

On Sunday, June 16, 2024 the entire parish community offered their heartful and prayerful best wishes to David McAlpin, who celebrated his 90th birthday. We humbly ask the Almighty Lord God to grant him health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing, and many blessed years!

On Sunday, June 9, 2024 a meeting was held for children and their parents to review the recently released Community Safety Guidelines. Dana Wyant made the presentation to the children, who raised questions and even offered ideas about how to make everyone even safer!

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, prayers were offered at the completion of the academic year, thanking the Lord for the blessing of His wisdom and knowledge, and asking Him to preserve the students in that which they have learned which is according to His divine law. 

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, Sebastian and Johanna Klimitchev had their marriage solemnized by the Church. We congratulate them as well their family and friends who attended the Marriage Blessing service. May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

On Sunday, May 26, 2024, after the Divine Liturgy, we had our annual Cross Dive, which opened the swimming season at Christ the Savior. The faithful prayerfully asked the Lord God Almighty to bless the parish pool and the fellowship it provides, throwing in the life-giving Cross of Christ to sanctify the water. The precious Cross is then retrieved by the children of the parish, remembering the words of the Lord, "Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me." Crosses were retrieved by Eliana and Damiana Milite.

On Thomas Sunday, May 12, 2024, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. In the Orthodox churches, Easter eggs are blessed by the priest at the end of the Paschal Service, and distributed to the faithful. The egg is seen by followers of Christianity as a symbol of resurrection: while being dormant it contains a new life sealed within it.

On Bright Friday, May 10, 2024 parishioners and friends gathered at the DeArmitt's home for a Paschal Party. While the weather was a bit cold this year, the fellowship was as great as ever and this festive celebration of Pascha was enjoyed by all. We give glory to God Almighty and many thanks to Justin and Alexis for opening their home to everyone and punctuating our Bright Week fellowship with a splendid party!

During the daily services of Great Lent the Church doubles the readings from the Psalter (Book of Psalms).  As our parish was not able to offer all of these services, a group of women, organized by Mat. Annice Oleynik, divided the Psalter into sections so that it could be read together each day. On Bright Wednesday, the Women's Psalter Group met at Cami Milite's house for dinner, fellowship, and to discuss their experience of reading the Psalter together. Many thanks to all who participated in the group and glory to God for all things!

On Sunday, May 5, 2024, the faithful gathered for the Midnight service, celebrating the Feast of Feast, Holy Pascha, which commemorates the Resurrection of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. More than 175 people gathered for the celebration of the liturgical services which were followed by the blessing of foods and a festive meal in the hall and rectory. We greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

From April 29 - May 4, 2024, the faithful gathered at Christ the Savior to celebrate the solemn liturgical services of Great and Holy Week, which commemorate the Lord's voluntary Passion, Cross, Death and Burial.

On Great and Holy Wednesday, May 1, 2024, the faithful gathered for the Mystery of Holy Unction, the anointing with holy oil for the healing of soul and body. The Church’s practice of Holy Unction dates back to Apostolic times, see James 5:14.

On Palm Sunday, April 28, 2024 the faithful gathered to celebrate the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. A procession around the church was made while the faithful bore in their hands palms in honor of the festive occasion. Following the beautiful divine services, a traditional fish meal was offered for all present. Glory be to God for all things!

On Lazarus Saturday, April 27, 2024, we welcomed 10 new members into the Orthodox Church through Holy Baptism and Chrismation: Taylor Andrew, Elisha Sophia Immanuel, Arcadius, and Sybil Dymphna Applegarth; Matthew Williams; Carol Anne Fravel, Dana Michael Wyant; Alexander Ortiz; Adrienne Mary Dymphna Slate; and Adam Spallino. We congratulate them, their families, their friends, and all who attended this special event.  May the Lord grant the newly-illumined servants of God health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing and many blessed years!

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, parishioners and friends took part in a Cornhole Tournament during the fellowship hour after Divine Liturgy. The 16 teams with 32 total players competed in a March Madness-styled, bracketed tournament which resulted in a good time had by all. We thank the Lord for a beautiful day and all the participants as well as those who put on the event. Glory to God for all things!

The award-winning documentary, "Sacred Alaska", was shown at Christ the Savior on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 7pm.  The film offers an intimate look into Native Alaskan culture and spirituality. It showcases the profound influence of Orthodoxy, introduced by Russian monks in the late 18th century, on Alaskan society. The film highlights the unique way Alaskans have woven their indigenous beliefs with Orthodox traditions, deeply influencing their worldview. Central to this is the concept of learning to become a "real person." Through beautiful cinematography and powerful storytelling, "Sacred Alaska" underscores the profound, sacred bond between the Alaskan people, their faith, and the formidable landscape they call home.

On March 24, 2024, we celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy with a procession of icons to the Archway at our roadside entrance during the Divine Liturgy. There we had a reading of the ancient Synodicon, the affirmation of the Orthodox Faith that our salvation is proclaimed in both words and images, and the faithful recited the Nicene Creed. We congratulate all who celebrate on this day!

On the Sunday of Orthodoxy, March 24, 2024 we were pleased to welcome four new catechumens: Nicholas Brittingham, Matthew and Kailyn Harmon, and William Wilkinson. We humbly ask the Lord's continued blessing upon them as they prepare themselves for sacramental reception into the Orthodox Church!

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, following the Divine Liturgy, we had the beautiful and grace-filled Rite of Forgiveness before entering into the Holy Forty Days of the Great Fast. During this solemn ritual we ask and receive forgiveness from each other and the Lord, who says, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.” (Matthew 6:14)

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, we congratulated Matushka Annice Oleynik on her 70th birthday (celebrated on March 4) with a birthday party during the fellowship hour after the Divine Liturgy. We humbly ask the Lord God Almighty to bless her with many more years of health, strength, and salvation!

On Sunday, March 10, 2024 with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Tikhon, the 2024 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2024 Council, Georgianne Mathews was elected Senior Warden and Ioana Davidson was elected Treasurer. May the Lord bless them all!

On Saturday, March 9, 2024, we had the baptism of Arden Elizabeth, son of Kevin and Sarah Kostyk. Following the baptism, everyone gathered at the Dunbar home to continue the celebration. From March 1-3, 2024, twenty parishioners led by Fr. John traveled to New York City to see an exhibition on African and Byzantine Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and attend local churches.
The churches visited were the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Protection (OCA) on Second Street, St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral (Moscow Patriarchate) on 97th Street, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign (ROCOR) on 93rd Street, and Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cathedral (OCA) on Grand Street in Jersey City, NJ.

On Thursday, February 8, 2024 there was a gathering of the Women’s Group at The Irish Penny in Salisbury, MD.  It was also a celebration of Marian’s birthday and a little February doldrums “pick-me-up”. On Friday, January 19, 2024, parishioners from Christ the Savior joined other Orthodox Christians and countless people who gathered for the March For Life in Washington, DC. The march is a pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital near the anniversary of the infamous decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which was thankfully overturned in 2022. 

On Sunday, January 14, 2024, Archpriest Joseph Oleynik blessed the rectory in the Parish Center. Following the service for the annual blessing of a home, there was an open house in the rectory. Appreciation is expressed to Fr. Joseph as well as all who attended, prayed, prepared food, and shared in fellowship.

The Great Feast of Theophany was celebrated on January 5-6, 2024 as the faithful gathered to commemorate Christ's baptism in the Jordan River and the revelation of the Holy Trinity. After celebrating the Divine Liturgy at Christ the Savior, we then joined Fr. Christopher Xanthos and the faithful of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City for the Annual Blessing of the Atlantic Ocean. Glory to God for a wonderful celebration!

On Sunday, December 31, 2023, we kept the custom of St. Basil's Bread (The Vasilopeta). Assisting Fr. John in cutting and distributing was Priest David Galloway from St. John the Merciful Mission in Kissimmee, Florida.  This year the St. Basil's coins were received by Kyra Wright, Kathy Parrish, Laurie Morsey; the other coins were received by Kyra Wright (two coins in one piece!), Eugenia Unghianu, and Nicholai Parsells. May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

On Monday, August 28, 2023 the Funeral Service was offered for the newly-departed handmaiden of God, Danyella Mary Parsells, at Christ the Savior in Berlin, Maryland. The Funeral Liturgy was offered the following day and the Burial was held at St. Nectarios Monastery in Roscoe, New York on Tuesday, September 5.
Danyella Mary is the wife of Gregory Parsells and the daughter of Lydia Sandul. Our deepest sympathies are with them both as well as the entire family. May the Lord grant them His comforting and consoling grace!
May the memory of Danyella Mary be eternal!  May her soul dwell among the Righteous!

We were also pleased to have Protodeacon Paul Sokol, from Ss. Peter & Paul in Manville, NJ, serving with us for the festal services. Following the Divine Liturgy a luncheon was served and a pool party was enjoyed by all. Glory and thanks be to God for His many blessings!

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, a Choir Workshop for singers and readers was held at Christ the Savior.  The workshop, led by Alexis Oleynik and a team of experienced choir directors/members/readers, was open to everyone who was interested in learning more about liturgical music and chanting no matter their experience, skill level, or age (children included!).  The workshop provided an opportunity for the parish to grow together in its knowledge and proficiency in the Orthodox liturgical/musical arts. Sincere appreciation is expressed to everyone who attended as well as Alex Oleynik, our choir director, and our instructors: Mat. Annice Oleynik, Joanne Patrick, Anya Klimitchev, and Rdr. Nicholas Borodulia.

On Sunday, July 9, 2023, we bid farewell to Matushka Dunia Hubiak, who is relocating to western Pennsylvania. Christ the Savior was founded by Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, of blessed repose, with Matushka Dunia by his side. Since that time, she has served and cared for the community which on this day expressed its love and appreciation for all that she has done and for the remarkable person that she has proven to be. We wish her Godspeed, every blessing in Christ and many more blessed years!

On Thursday, July 6, 2023 a group of parishioners attended a Delmarva Shorebirds at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, MD.  There was a special give-away of Maryland Pride (not LGBTQ) Hats to the first 1,000 fans through the gates. Though the Shorebirds lost the game but we all enjoyed the night out together!

On Sunday, July 2, 2023, after celebrating the Divine Liturgy in which we commemorated St. John of San Francisco and offered prayer for the well-being of our nation, we had a cookout and pool party in the parish courtyard celebrating Independence Day. We were pleased to welcome Protodeacon Gregory Moser for these ecclesiastical and civil celebrations. May the Lord continue to bless His Church and our nation, raising up more Saints to His glory in this blessed American land!

It was also the civil holiday of Father's Day. We ask the Lord's blessing upon all the fathers, god-fathers, spiritual fathers, and everyone else who celebrates on this Father's Day. Many blessed years to all!

On Saturday, June 17, 2023, parishioners met at Brittingham Farms in Millsboro, Delaware for the first annual Lavender and Lambs Festival. They enjoyed browsing various vendors of crafts and tasting local cuisine from food trucks, petting animals, feeding sheep, and picking lavender. They also were able to witness the docents of the Lewis Historical Society dyeing wool with cochineal beetles and indigo plants, cooking over a fire, and hand sewing.

On Sunday, June 4, 2023, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. As is customary, the Vespers with Kneeling Prayers was served immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We congratulation all who celebrate on this high holy day!

On May 27, 2023 Kateri and Stephen Parrish were united in Holy Matrimony at St. Andrew's Orthodox Church in Lewes, Delaware.  Fr. John Parsells presided at the ceremony, which was followed by a reception at the Hopkins Heartland. May the Lord bless Kateri and Stephen with health, strength, salvation, furtherance in every good thing, and many blessed years!

For the past seventeen years, Christ the Savior has been collecting remnants of the candles that have been offered during worship services and storing them with the hope that at some point, we might be able to locally recycle these candle stubs to be used again by the faithful as they offer their prayers to God. One of our parishioners, Justin Barkewich, has offered his time and talents, learning the art of candle making, and providing this important ministry to the parish. It is Justin's hope that this labor of love will help renew the prayers, wishes, and memories of those who originally lit these candles over the years past. 

On Sunday, May 21, 2023, after the Divine Liturgy, we had our annual Cross Dive, which opened the swimming season at Christ the Savior. The faithful prayerfully asked the Lord God Almighty to bless the parish pool and the fellowship it provides, throwing in the life-giving Cross of Christ to sanctify the water. The precious Cross is then retrieved by the children of the parish, remembering the words of the Lord, "Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me." Crosses were retrieved by Ana Anderson and Alexander Parsells.

On Sunday, May 14, 2023, Fr. John gave a special presentation to the combined church school classes on the Proskomedia, which is the first part of the Divine Liturgy, served by the priest before the faithful arrive at church.  In the Proskomedia (from the Greek προσκομιδή, “offering”), the priest prepares the Lamb (the bread) and the wine to be consecrated for Holy Communion, commemorates the Theotokos and the ranks of Saints, and remembers the living and the departed. The class covered the liturgical items used such as the chalice, the diskos, the spear and spoon, as well as the prayers and rites of the service.

On Sunday, May 7, 2023 parishioners and friends gathered after Divine Liturgy at Showell Park in Berlin for a day of recreation. Those who attended, enjoyed continued fellowship as well as kickball, tennis, soccer, and other fun activities. Glory to God for a beautiful day!

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, Fr. John gave a special presentation to the combined church school classes on Orthodox liturgical vestments, covering their history, usage, and meaning. Many thanks to those who volunteered to assist with the presentation, including Dominic Morsey, Max Morsey, and Iona Klimitchev. 

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the ladies of the Finer Things Club met at the Howard County Fairgrounds for the 50th annual Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival.  They enjoyed fellowship, food, and the various animals, crafts, and demonstrations that the festival had to offer.  The Finer Things Club meets at the church on the first Saturday of every month for cake, tea, and crafting. All are welcome!

On Thomas Sunday, April 23, 2023, the children of the parish played basketball with Fr. John, the church school teachers, and some of the parishioners in the church parking lot. The weather was beautiful and everyone had a marvelous time. Glory to God for a great day!

On Thomas Sunday, April 23, 2023, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. In the Orthodox churches, Easter eggs are blessed by the priest at the end of the Paschal Service, and distributed to the faithful. The egg is seen by followers of Christianity as a symbol of resurrection: while being dormant it contains a new life sealed within it.

On Bright Friday, April 21, parishioners and friends gathered at the DeArmitt's home for a Paschal Party. Great food, games, swimming, lively discussion, and a spirit of togetherness and joy in festive celebration of Pascha was enjoyed by all. We give glory to God Almighty and many thanks to Justin and Alexis for opening their home to everyone and punctuating our Bright Week fellowship with a splendid party!

During the daily services of Great Lent the Church doubles the readings from the Psalter (Book of Psalms).  As our parish was not able to offer all of these services, a group of women, organized by Rachael Howard, divided the Psalter into sections so that it could be read together each day. On Bright Thursday, the Women's Psalter Group met at Beth Dunbar's house for dinner, fellowship, and to discuss their experience of reading the Psalter together. Many thanks to all who participated in the group and glory to God for all things!

On Sunday, April 16, 2023, the faithful gathered for the Midnight service, celebrating the Feast of Feast, Holy Pascha, which commemorates the Resurrection of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. More than 150 people gathered for the celebration of the liturgical services which were followed by the blessing of foods and a festive meal in the hall and rectory. We greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

From April 9-15, 2023, the faithful gathered at Christ the Savior to celebrate the solemn liturgical services of Great and Holy Week, which commemorate the Lord's voluntary Passion, Cross, Death and Burial.

On Great and Holy Wednesday, April 12, 2023, the faithful gathered for the Mystery of Holy Unction, the anointing with holy oil for the healing of soul and body. The Church’s practice of Holy Unction dates back to Apostolic times, see James 5:14.

On Palm Sunday, April 9, 2023 the faithful gathered to celebrate the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. A procession around the church was made while the faithful bore in their hands palms in honor of the festive occasion. Following the beautiful divine services, a traditional fish meal was offered for all present. Glory be to God for all things!

On Lazarus Saturday, April 8, 2023, we welcomed Pax Daniel Garcia into the Orthodox Church through Holy Baptism and Chrismation.  We congratulate him, his family, his friends, and all who attended this special event.  May the Lord grant the newly-illumined servant of God, Pax Daniel, health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing and many blessed years!

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, parishioners installed new landscaping at the church's entrance on Carey Road. This project was headed by Taylor Applegarth, who designed the installation and led the implementation. Sincere appreciation is expressed to all who labored and donated to beauty our parish's entrance. May the Lord bless them all for their good work!

On Sunday, March 26, 2023 as we celebrated the leave-taking of Annunciation, parishioners and friends took part in a Cornhole Tournament during the fellowship hour after Divine Liturgy. The 16 teams with 32 total players competed in a March Madness-styled, bracketed tournament which resulted in a good time had by all. We thank the Lord for a beautiful day and all the participants as well as those who put on the event. Glory to God for all things!

On Sunday, March 26, 2023 we celebrated the birthdays of the clergy wives, who were all born in the month of March. We heartily congratulate Mat. Emily Parsells, Mat. Dunia Hubiak, Mat. Annice Oleynik, and Nissa Nancy Hall.  May the Lord continue to bless them all, granting them health, strength, salvation, furtherance in every good thing and many blessed years!

On Sunday, March 12, 2023 with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Tikhon, the 2023 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2023 Council, Cheryl Kokkinos was elected Junior Warden and Vera Yevsukov was elected Secretary. May the Lord bless them all!

On March 5, 2023 His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy at Christ the Savior, where he blessed the newly fashioned and installed mosaics at the parish entrance. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Mirona Bendfeldt was presented a gramota in recognition of her leading a team of parishioners, including Mat. Emily Parsells and Rachael Howard, in the design and fashioning of the mosaics which adorn the side walls of the archway and the front of the parish center. 

During the first week of Great Lent the faithful gather for the reading of the Great Canon of Repentance, written by St. Andrew of Crete in the 8th century. In this canon, St. Andrew wonderfully weaves our own personal story of sinfulness and restoration in Christ with the accounts of the sinful and righteous of the Old and New Testaments, giving us greater awareness of not only the history of salvation for the people of God, but also greater insight into how we must participate in the writing of our own personal salvation history.

On Sunday, February 26, 2023, following the Divine Liturgy, we had the beautiful and grace-filled Rite of Forgiveness before entering into the Holy Forty Days of the Great Fast. During this solemn ritual we ask and receive forgiveness from each other and the Lord, who says, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.” (Matthew 6:14)

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023 after more than a year of preparation, the mosaics fashioned for the archway at the Carey Road entrance to Christ the Savior were installed. The icon of Christ was made by artisans in the workshop of St. Elizabeth's Convent in Belarus, Minsk, and the 10 Christian symbols were formed by our own parish mosaic team, led by Mirona Bendfeldt and including Rachael Howard and Mat. Emily Parsells. The work was part of Project Illumination, which was dedicated to the memory of Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, who founded the church in 2000. It is our prayer that these beautiful mosaics now adorning our entryway serve to invite and inspire everyone who sees them to come to Christ the Savior where they can by the grace of God experience His Kingdom here in Berlin, Maryland.

On Sunday, February 19, 2023 we had our first annual Chili Cook-off in lieu of the coffee hour following the Divine Liturgy. The cook-off was sponsored by the church school, whose coordinator, Anne Rowe, was instrumental in this initiative. Meat-fare Sunday was selected for the chili cook-off because this is the last day that Orthodox Christians partake of meat until Holy Pascha (this year, Sunday, April 16). We express our gratitude to Anne Rowe, the nine contestants, the church school teachers, children, and parents, as well as all who helped to plan and participated in this special event. We congratulate the winners, who received prizes for their tasty chili dishes. Glory to God for all things!

On Sunday, February 19, 2023 there was a short presentation at the end of the Divine Liturgy by the Mosaic Team, headed by Mirona Bendfeldt and including Rachael Howard and Mat. Emily. During the presentation everyone had a chance to view the 10 mosaics fashioned by the team – all of which are Christian symbols which will adorn the walls of our entrance way on Carey Road. Additionally, the large mosaic of the Icon Not-made-by-hands, prepared by St. Elizabeth’s Convent in Minsk, Belarus, was on display before later being installed in the archway in the near future. This was an opportunity to see these beautiful mosaics in advance of their installation and to hear from the Mosaic Team, who has worked diligently for more than a year, dedicating their time, talent, and other resources to this important work, in memory of our parish’s beloved founder, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, and to the glory of God!

On Meat-fare Sunday, February 19, 2023, the parish welcomed a number of visitors, including Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki, who delivered a very fine sermon on the Last Judgment and concelebrated with Archpriests Joseph Oleynik and John Parsells. Following, the Divine Liturgy there was a presentation about the newly fashioned mosaics which are to be installed at the parish entrance on Carey Road. Afterwards everyone gathered for the first annual Chili cook-off, sponsored by the church school.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023 there was a gathering of the Women’s Group at The Irish Penny in Salisbury, MD.  It was also a celebration of Marian’s birthday and a little February doldrums “pick-me-up”. We resume our Bible Study this Wednesday, February 8, 2023 with a new topic: Christ in the Psalms. The class will be led by Fr. James Parsells from Ss. Peter & Paul in Manville, NJ, who will take us through a number of the Psalms with important messianic prophecies and Christological significance as we journey to Pascha. All are invited to attend!

On Thursday, February 2, 2023 we celebrated the Great Feast of the Meeting of Our Lord in the Temple, which commemorates the Lord’s presentation into His Temple 40 days after His birth in the flesh. This feast concludes the Nativity season. This feast is also called Candlemas as we bless candles on this day.

On Saturday, January 21, 2023, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon presided at the celebration of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, DC. The Archdiocesan clergy and faithful gathered in honor of His Beatitude who will mark the tenth anniversary of his primatial enthronement on Friday, January 27.

On Friday, January 20, 2023, parishioners from Christ the Savior joined other Orthodox Christians and countless people who gathered for the March For Life in Washington, DC. The march is a pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital near the anniversary of the infamous decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which was thankfully overturned in 2022. 

On Sunday, January 8, 2023, Archpriest Joseph Oleynik blessed the rectory in the Parish Center. Following the service for the annual blessing of a home, there was an open house in the rectory. Appreciation is expressed to Fr. Joseph as well as all who attended, prayed, prepared food, and shared in fellowship.

On Saturday, January 7, 2023, faithful from Christ the Savior joined St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, MD, for the annual blessing of the Atlantic Ocean. The services were led by His Grace, Bishop Apostolos of Medeia of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Many thanks to Fr. Christopher Xanthos and the community of St. George for hosting this wonderful event to the glory of God!

On Sunday, January 1, 2023, we kept the custom of St. Basil's Bread (The Vasilopeta). This year the St. Basil's coins were received by Ana Anderson, Ginny Borodulia, John Isaac Davidson and Ludmila Yevsukov; the other coins were received by Nissa Nancy Hall and Daria Parsells. May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

As the faithful gathered to celebrate the Nativity of the Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ according to the flesh, we humbly asked the Lord's continued blessing upon you all for a joyous, peaceful and grace-filled festive season and New Year. Christ is born! Glorify Him!

On Sunday, December 4, 2022 a group of parishioners traveled to the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to sing Christmas carols. Following the general concert in the recreation room, we walked the halls, singing to those who were on ventilators and bound to their rooms. Many thanks to Alexis Oleynik, our choir director, Beth Dunbar, our outreach chair, and all those who went to sing and share the joy of the Christmas season!

On Sunday, November 13, 2022, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels, and they also enjoyed fun activities. The St. Michael's Party coincided with the parish Thanksgiving meal with the traditional foods and fixings. We also had arts and crafts for the adults and seniors. Many thanks to all who made this year's St. Michael's party and Thanksgiving meal such a great success!

On Sunday, November 6, 2022, prayers were offered at the end of the Divine Liturgy for those in the healing ministries. We ask the Lord's continued blessings upon all those who work with Him in the healing of mankind's physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds and illnesses. May the Lord grant them many blessed years of faithful service to Him and their fellow man!

On Sunday, October 30, 2022 parishioners and friends gathered after Divine Liturgy at Showell Park in Berlin for a day of recreation. About 30 people attended and enjoyed continued fellowship as well as two highly competitive kickball and soccer games. This was the first of such events and by popular request a second Parish Park Day has been scheduled for Sunday, November 27.

On Sunday, October 2, 2022, Brad and Georgiana Wright had their marriage solemnized by the Church. We congratulate them as well their family and friends who attended the Marriage Blessing service. May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

On Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the end of the Divine Liturgy there was special blessing for the choir director, members, and readers. This blessing takes place annually on the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Romanus the Melodist (October 1st). We ask that Lord's divine blessing upon them so that they might worthily fulfill this vital ministry.

On Sunday, August 28, 2022, we asked the Lord's blessing upon the teachers and students at the beginning of the Academic Year.  May the Lord enlighten and guide them into His divine truth!

On Sunday, August 21, 2022, we welcomed visitors and friends to Christ the Savior for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy and a Parish Beach Day at Assateague Island. Joining Archpriest Joseph Oleynik and Archpriest John Parsells were Archpriest Leonid Schmidt, Protodeacon John Oleynik and Protodeacon Peter Markevich. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy the following prayer was offered in gratitude to God for His many blessings to our little parish which just celebrated its patronal feast on August 16, with the commemoration of the Icon Not-Made-By-Hands.

On Thursday, August 15, 2022, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, which is the annual festal commemoration the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of the Virgin Mary, the Birthgiver of God. After the Divine Services parishioners traveled to the local Chick-Fil-A followed by some time at the beach on Assateague Island to continue to the celebration and fellowship. Glory to God for a beautiful feastday!

On Sunday, August 14, 2022 a newly painted portrait of the parish's founding priest, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, was presented to the community and to Matushka Dunia Hubiak as a token of our love and support for her as well as our appreciation for all that she and her late husband, Fr. Daniel, have done for Christ the Savior here in Berlin, Maryland. The portrait was beautifully executed by Shayne Swenson from Spokane, Washington. Glory to God for all things! May Fr. Daniel's memory be eternal!

On Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, we had the annual Blessing of Chariots (cars, trucks, bikes, etc).  It is a custom of Orthodox Christians to have their cars blessed both when newly acquired and on or near the feast of the Prophet Elias (July 20th), as he ascended as if into heaven on a fiery chariot. We thank God for a truly blessed day!

On Sunday, July 10, 2022, seven small rooftop crosses and one large cross for the top of the archway at the entrance of the property were blessed at the end of the Divine Liturgy. The large cross was erected later during the week and the small rooftop crosses will be installed at a forthcoming date. These crosses were donated as part of Project Illumination in memory of Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, who founded the parish in 2000. May his memory be eternal and may these crosses inspire us all to enter the Kingdom of God through self-denial, taking up our own crosses and following Christ.

An educational retreat with Archpriest Andrew Stephen Damick entitled, “Arise, O God: The Gospel of Christ’s Defeat of Demons, Sin, and Death”, was held at Christ the Savior on Saturday and Sunday, April 2 and 3, 2022. The retreat was offered at no cost and was open to everyone, with around 70 people in attendance. Appreciation is expressed to Fr. Andrew for his well prepared, fascinating and edifying presentations. We also thank Rdr. George Kaloroumakis and those who assisted in putting on the retreat as well as those who made donations to cover the costs. Glory to God for all things!

On Sunday, March 27, 2022 we celebrated the birthdays of the clergy wives, who were all born in the month of March. We heartily congratulate Mat. Emily Parsells, Mat. Dunia Hubiak, Mat. Annice Oleynik, and Nissa Nancy Hall. Fr. John, who also celebrated his birthday in March, was presented with a custom travel mug with the word "Sermonator" embossed on it.  May the Lord continue to bless them all, granting them health, strength, salvation, furtherance in every good thing and many blessed years!

On Friday, March 25, 2022 the faithful gathered to celebrate The Annunciation of our Most Holy Lady, the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary. The background of the Annunciation is found in the Gospel of Saint Luke (1:26-38). The troparion describes this as the “beginning of our salvation, and the revelation of the eternal mystery,” for on this day the Son of God became the Son of Man. We congratulate everyone on the Feast!

On Monday, March 21, 2022 almost 30 people from Christ the Savior gathered at Regal Cinemas in Salisbury, MD to view the new movie about Saint Nektarios of Aegina, entitled “Man of God”. Everyone loved the movie, which chronicled the trials and tribulations of Saint Nektarios, as he bore the unjust hatred of his enemies while preaching the Word of God. Exiled unjustly, convicted without trial, and slandered without cause, Saint Nektarios underwent it all with humility, forgiveness, and love, for which he was vindicated by God and glorified among the saints of the Church.  Glory to God who is wondrous in His Saints! (Psalm 68:36)  Holy Hierarch Nektarios pray unto God for us!

On March 13, 2022, we celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy with a procession of icons during the Divine Liturgy and the reading of the ancient Synodicon, the affirmation of the Orthodox Faith that our salvation is proclaimed in both words and images. We also blessed two new mosaics, which are to be installed on the front façade of the Parish Center. We congratulate all who celebrate on this day!

During the first week of Great Lent the faithful gather for the reading of the Great Canon of Repentance, written by St. Andrew of Crete in the 8th century. In this canon, St. Andrew wonderfully weaves our own personal story of sinfulness and restoration in Christ with the accounts of the sinful and righteous of the Old and New Testaments, giving us greater awareness of not only the history of salvation for the people of God, but also greater insight into how we must participate in the writing of our own personal salvation history.

On Sunday, March 6, following the Divine Liturgy, we had the beautiful and grace-filled Rite of Forgiveness before entering into the Holy Forty Days of the Great Fast. During this solemn ritual we ask and receive forgiveness from each other and the Lord, who says, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.” (Matthew 6:14)

During the Annual Parish Meeting on February 6, 2022, it was unanimously decided to raise money to pay for much needed repairs to the church’s entrance drive and parking lot. The existing asphalt has already deteriorated considerably and postponing these necessary repairs will only increase the scope and cost of the work. It is requested that the members and benefactors of Christ the Savior, prayerfully consider making a donation to cover the cost of the repairs, which total at $15,153. Should you have any questions, please speak with Fr. During the first meeting of the 2022 Council, Justin DeArmitt was elected Senior Warden and Barbara Kaloroumakis was elected Treasurer. May the Lord bless them all!

On January 28-29, 2022 some 12 inches of snow fell here at Christ the Savior in Berlin, Maryland leaving a beautiful white blanket covering everything. Glory to God for all things!

On January 5, 2022 the festal Matins of Holy Theophany was served together with the Great Blessing of Water. On January 6, 2022 we celebrated the Divine Liturgy.  On this feast, the faithful gathered to commemorate Christ's baptism in the Jordan River and the revelation of the Holy Trinity. We rejoice in this holy feast which brings about our renewal, regeneration, and santification. We send up glory, honor, and worship to our true God Who has revealed Himself to us! 

On January 2, 2022, we kept the custom of St. Basil's Bread (The Vasilopeta). This year the coins were received by Rdr. George Kaloroumakis, Beth Dunbar, Bobbie Dobronz, Sarah Doyle, Camilia Milite, Eliana Milite, and Maleah Morsey. May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

On Monday, December 6, 2021, we celebrated the feast of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra, the Wonder-worker (+343). We were priviledged to be able to venerate the relics of St. Nicholas, which were brought by Archpriest Joseph Oleynik, who received them from Metropolitan Theodosius. Following the Divine Liturgy "golden" chocolate coins were distributed to the faithful as a reminder of the saint's great charity and practice of anonymous gift-giving, which we all do well to emulate. On Sunday, November 7th, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels, and they also enjoyed ther activities. The St. Michael's Party also coincided with the parish Thanskgiving meal with the traditional foods and fixings. Many thanks to all who made this year's St. Michael's party and Thanksgiiving meal such a great success!

On Sunday, October 3, 2021, the church school program began at Christ the Savior. There are three groups, which meet each Sunday: 1) Pre-K and Kindergarten, 2) Grammar School, and 3) Middle and High School. The church school coordinator is Anne Rowe, who is assisted by numerous teachers and staff members. Fr. John also helps with lessons, especially handling contemporary moral/social issues (primarily with the older group) as well as any questions that arise. The church school is open to all children and friends of the parish.

On Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the end of the Divine Liturgy there was special blessing for the choir directors, members, and readers. This blessing takes place annually on the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Romanus the Melodist (October 1st). We ask that Lord's divine blessing upon them so that they might worthily fulfill this vital ministry.

Parishioners from Christ the Savior joined hundreds of Pro-Lifers at the "Life is WINNING" Rally in Seaford, Delaware, protesting the opening of a new regional abortion center by Planned Parenthood.

On Sunday, September 26, 2021 parishioners and friends went to Assateague Island National Park, following the Divine Liturgy and coffee hour at the church. This day at the beach marked the end of the summer season during which many such days were enjoyed as our church family shared in fellowship at this beautiful place. Glory to God for all things!

On Sunday, September 5, 2021, we asked the Lord's blessing upon the teachers and students at the beginning of the Academic Year.  May the Lord enlighten and guide them into His divine truth!

On Wednesday, September 1, 2021, we will resume our weekly Bible Study as we begin the Gospel of St. John. The study will be held on Zoom at 7:00pm and is open to all parishioners and friends.

On August 14-16, 2021, we welcomed His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, together with venerable clergy and beloved friends from near and far to Christ the Savior for the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the parish. A true spirit of gratitude to God and joy in the Lord was tangibly felt by all as we recollected the manifold blessings granted to the parish over the past two decades. We send up glory to God for all things and ask His continued providential care over our community as we seek to serve Him in the years to come!

On Tuesday, August 6th, faithful parishioners and guests gathered to celebrate the Great Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord.  Following the Divine Liturgy, we had the customary blessing of grapes and other various fruit. Glory to God for a beautiful feastday!

On Sunday, August 1, 2021, the feast of the Procession of the Cross, two new hand crosses were blessed at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. The hand cross is kept on the altar table and used at certain moments during the liturgy, most noticeably at the dismissal when the priest holds it in his right hand as he gives the final blessing and then offers it to the faithful for veneration. Coserving with Fr. John were Priest George Sharonoff and Protodeacon Gregory Moser. Following the blessing of the new crosses, Archpriest Joseph Oleynik wished Fr. John many blessed years on the 15 anniversary of his assignment to Christ the Savior, August 1, 2006.

On Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, we had the annual Blessing of Chariots (cars, trucks, bikes, etc).  The blessing was served by Archpriest Joseph Oleynik, Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki, and Priest John Parsells. It is a custom of Orthodox Christians to have their cars blessed both when newly acquired and on or near the feast of the Prophet Elias (July 20th), as he ascended as if into heaven on a fiery chariot. We thank God for a truly blessed day!

On Sunday, July 4, 2021, after celebrating the Divine Liturgy in which we commemorated the Saints of North America and offered prayer for the well-being of our nation, we had a cookout and pool party in the parish courtyard celebrating Independence Day. We were pleased to welcome Archpriest Samuel Kedala and Protodeacon Gregory Moser for these ecclesiastical and civil celebrations. May the Lord continue to bless His Church and our nation, raising up more Saints to His glory in this blessed American land!

On Sunday, July 4, 2021, prayers were offered at the completion of the academic year, thanking the Lord for the blessing of His wisdom and knowledge, and asking Him to preserve the students in that which they have learned which is according to His divine law.

On Sunday, June 20, 2021, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. As is customary, the Vespers with Kneeling Prayers was served immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We congratulation all who celebrate on this high holy day!

On Tuesday, June 15 a Memorial was offered for the newly-departed Deacon Stephen Hall at Christ the Savior in Berlin, Maryland. On Thursday, June 17, a Funeral Liturgy was celebrated at Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, followed by the burial of Deacon Stephen at Grandview Cemetery.

On Sunday, June 13, 2021, Robert West and Anya Klimitchev were joined in holy marriage at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Monastery in South Canaan, Pennsylvania. The service on this joyous occasion was officiated by priests, Fr. John Parsells and Fr. George Sharonoff. Surrounded by family and friends, the newly wed couple took their first steps at the monastery "where saints have walked", beginning their own journey as husband and wife on the road to eternal life. On Sunday, June 6, 2021, following the Cross Dive, the parishioners and friends of the parish enjoyed a tasty crab feast and some time together in fellowship. This was the first ever crab feast at Christ the Savior but God-willing it will certainly not be the last. Many thanks to all who made this possible!

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, we had our annual Cross Dive, which opened the swimming season at Christ the Savior. The faithful prayerfully asked the Lord God Almighty to bless the parish pool and the fellowship it provides, throwing in the life-giving Cross of Christ to sanctify the water. The precious Cross is then retrieved by the children of the parish, remembering the words of the Lord, "Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me." Crosses were retrieved by Anastasia Bakie and Isabella Milite.

On Sunday, May 23, 2021, we were pleased to welcome Kayla Fortin into the catechumenate during the Divine Liturgy. We humbly ask the Lord's continued blessing upon her as she prepares herself for sacramental reception into the Orthodox Church!

On May 21, 2021, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon blessed Christ the Savior to proceed with the following amendments to our Reopening Plan which were unanimously approved during our Special Parish Meeting on Sunday, May 16, 2021.

On Thomas Sunday, May 9, 2021, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. In the Orthodox churches, Easter eggs are blessed by the priest at the end of the Paschal Service, and distributed to the faithful. The egg is seen by followers of Christianity as a symbol of resurrection: while being dormant it contains a new life sealed within it.

On Sunday, May 3, 2021, the faithful gathered for the Midnight service, celebrating the Feast of Feast, Holy Pascha, which commemorates the Resurrection of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. More than 130 people gathered for the celebration of the liturgical services which were followed by the blessing of foods and a festive meal in the hall and rectory. We greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

From April 25 - May 1, the faithful gathered at Christ the Savior to celebrated the solemn liturgical services of Great and Holy Week, which commemorates the Lord's voluntary Passion, His Cross, Death and Burial.

On Great and Holy Wednesday, April 28, the faithful gathered for the Mystery of Holy Unction, the anointing with holy oil for the healing of soul and body. The Church’s practice of Holy Unction dates back to Apostolic times, see James 5:14.

On Palm Sunday, April 25, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. A procession around the church was made while the faithful bore in their hands palms in honor of the festive occassion. Following the beautiful divine services, a traditional Bakaliaro fish meal was offered for all present. Glory be to God for all things!

On Friday, March 12, 2021, capacity limits on churches were lifted by Governor Hogan's executive order (21-03-09-01). Effective on this date, Christ the Savior is now open at 100% capacity. There is no longer a need to register to attend worship services. Risk mitigation policies remain in effect until further notice, and we have a reserved area for worship for those who might be considered high risk. In March and April 2021, our reading group will be reading "On The Incarnation" by St. Athanasius the Great. By any standard, this is a classic of Christian theology. Composed by St. Athanasius in the fourth century, it expounds with simplicity the theological vision defended at the councils of Nicaea and Constantinople: that the Son of God himself became "fully human, so that we might become god." Its influence on all Christian theology thereafter, East and West, ensures its place as one of the few "must read" books of Christian theology for all time.

On February 10 and 11, 2021, the funeral services for Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak were held at Christ the Savior Church, Berlin, MD. Father Daniel had departed this life on February, 5, 2021, at the age of 94, in his retirement in Ocean Pines, MD.

It is with heartfelt sadness, yet firm hope in the resurrection on the last day, that we share with you the news that our beloved father in Christ and founder of our Christ the Savior parish, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, has departed this life for the age to come.  Fr. Daniel reposed at his home last night, Friday, February 5 around 8:10pm, with Mat. Dunia by his side, having spent his last days in the warm embrace of his family who assembled around him.  We ask the Lord’s consolation for Mat. Dunia, their daughters, Larice Nescott and Mat. Annice Oleynik, and their entire family.

On Sunday, January 31, following the morning services, the children of the parish enjoyed the freshly falling snow and challenged Fr. John to a snowball fight. Though it didn't go well for him, Fr. John is okay and trying not to harbor any grudges.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, the funeral and burial of Monk Christian (Lesinsky) took place at Christ the Savior Orthodox Church and Evergreen Cemetery in Berlin, MD. Sincere appreciation is expressed to everyone who assisted with the divine services and/or donated to help with the burial costs. May Father Christian's memory be eternal! May his soul dwell among the Righteous!

Father Christian reposed in the Lord on Friday, January 8, 2021 at the age of 77.  He was a founding member of Christ the Savior, beloved parishioner and friend, and faithful Orthodox Christian.

We ask the Lord's continued blessings upon all those who work with Him in the healing of mankind's physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds and illnesses. May the Lord grant them many blessed years of faithful service to Him and their fellow man!

On Wednesday, September 30, parish youth, accompanied by their parents, made a trip to the local State Police barracks to present the officers with cards and other artwork, showing our appreciation for their willingness to answer the call to protect and serve. The parish also purchased some food for the officers of the barracks from a local restaurant as a small token of our gratitude. Among the group from the church was our own Cpl. Dana Wyant, who serves on the police force in Rehoboth, DE. We heartily thank the officers who welcomed us to the barracks and ask humbly the Lord to bless, strengthen, guard, and preserve all our police men and women and their families!

On several occasions parishioners gathered at the beach to enjoy the beauty of God's creation and share in fellowship with one another. On Sunday, August 16, the faithful gathered to celebrate their parish feastday, the commemoration of the Icon Not-Made-By-Hands. The 20th anniversary celebration with His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon has been postponed to a future date in light of COVID-19 restrictions.

If you have been to church at Christ the Savior in the past few weeks, you’ve noticed the exciting work being done on the roadside Entrance Project.  Our committee and workers, under the capable leadership of Tom Mathews, have been making great progress and we would like to thank them for their efforts to spearhead this endeavor! We are now at the point where we are in need of your help also.

On Pentecost Sunday, June 7, 2002 the faithful gathered to celebrate the Descent of the Holy Spirit. The joy of this day was only increased as we welcomed Justin Barkewich into the bosom of the Church through Holy Chrismation. May the Lord grant the newly-illumined servant of God, Justin, health, strength, salvation, furtherance in every good thing and many blessed years!

On Memorial Day, May 25, 2020, we blessed the Trike Motorcycle of one of our parishioners, Justin Barkewich, who is also a veteran from a family of four consecutive generations of military service. We thank Justin and his family for their service and sacrifices for us all.  It is the custom of Orthodox Christians to have their vehicles blessed on acquisition and annually.  We prayerfully wish Justin safe travels, asking the Lord to bless, protect, and direct his way to the Heavenly Kingdom!

On Thursday, May 21, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon blessed and approved our plan to gradually reopen Christ the Savior starting with the weekend of May 23-24. On Friday, May 1, 2020, meeting under the Presidency of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church issued the following Pastoral Letter, and Synodal Directives related to COVID-19. Each Diocesan Bishop will be releasing diocesan specific guidelines shortly.

On Sunday, March 8, the local Orthodox parishes in Delmarva gathered at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, MD for this year's solemn celebration of the Triumph of Orthodoxy. Serving with Fr. Chris Wallace from St. George's was Fr. Herman Acker from St. Andrew's in Lewes, DE, and Fr. Joseph Oleynik, Fr. John Parsells, and Dn. Steven Hall from Christ the Savior, here in Berlin, MD. The Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers was followed by the sharing of fellowship and lenten refreshments in the parish hall. From Monday through Thursday, March 2-5, the faithful gathered for the reading of the Great Canon of Repentance, written by St. Andrew of Crete in the 8th century. This service will be offered once more on April 1.  The text of the Great Canon can be found here. 

On Sunday, March 1, the parish had a joint birthday party for Mat. Dunia Hubiak and Mat. Emily Parsells who turn 90 and 40, respectively, this month. Flowers were presented and cakes were baked to mark this special event and in honor of these special ladies, who have dedicated much of their lives in service to the Church in general and this parish in particular. May the Lord grant them health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing and many blessed years!

On Sunday, March 1, following the Divine Liturgy, we had the beautiful and grace-filled Rite of Forgiveness before entering into the Holy Forty Days of the Great Fast. During this solemn ritual we ask and receive forgiveness from each other and the Lord, who says, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.” (Matthew 6:14)

On Sunday, February 9, the faithful were presented with Prayers Ropes, Icons, and Incense from the Holy Mountain of Athos. These gifts were brought back by Michael Cook, who recently made pilgrimage to Greece and the Holy Mountain, bringing back with him these items for the parishioners as a blessing. Among the monasteries Michael visited was Xenophontos, a 10th century monastery dedicated to St. George, where a close friend of Michael's and a number of Americans have made their spiritual home.

On Sunday, February 2, 2020, we celebrated the Great Feast of the Meeting of the Lord in the Temple as well as the Baptisms of John Isaac Davidson and Emory Emilia. We sincerely congratulate the newly-illumined John and Emilia as well as their sponsors, their family, and their friends on this special day. May the Lord grant them all health, strength, salvation, furtherance in every good thing, and many blessed years!

On Sunday, January 26th, the parishioners of Christ the Savior gathered together for their annual meeting. In addition to reviewing the minutes from last year's meeting, the parish body heard reports from the rector, senior warden, junior warden, treasurer, auditors, and entrance commission.

On Friday, January 24, parishioners from Christ the Savior joined other Orthodox Christians and hundreds of thousands of people who gathered for the March For Life in Washington, DC. The march is a pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital near the anniversary of the infamous decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. The March was preceded by the Divine Liturgy held at St. Nicholas Cathedral where His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon spoke about the significance of the day and the sanctity of life given by God.

On Sunday, January 12, we were pleased to welcome Judy and Matthew Williams into the catechumenate during the Divine Liturgy. We humbly ask the Lord's continued blessing upon them as they prepare themselves for sacramental reception into the Orthodox Church!

On Holy Theophany, the faithful gathered to commemorate Christ's baptism in the Jordan River and the revelation of the Holy Trinity. We served the Great Blessing of Water, a sacred rite of the Church which extends to us the blessing of the water sanctified by the Lord's entrance into the Jordan. We rejoice in this holy feast which brings about our renewal, regeneration, and santification. We send up glory, honor, and worship to our true God Who has revealed Himself to us!  

On Sunday, January 5, the Eve of Theophany, we were pleased to receive the Howard family into the Orthodox Church through the Holy Mysteries of Baptism, Confession, Chrismation, and the Eucharist. We heartily congratulate Lowen (Silouan), Rachael (Elizabeth), Judah (Panteleimon), Lewis (George), and Martin (Herman) as well as their sponsors, their family, and their friends on this special day. May the Lord grant them all health, strength, salvation, furtherance in every good thing, and many blessed years!

On January 1, 2020 as we celebrated the feast of the Lord's Circumcision and the commemoration of St. Basil the Great, we were pleased to bless a new chalice set and candlestick, donated in memory of Catherine Lupiwok, who reposed this past year. We thank the generous donors and ask that the Lord grant the departed handmaiden of God, Catherine, memory eternal and blessed repose. Likewise, we humbly ask the Lord God to bless one and all during the New Year. May 2020 bring an increase in godliness, growth for the Church, peace for the world, and glory to the Lord Almighty!

On Sunday, December 29th, we congratulated the parish's founding priest, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, on his 93rd birthday. May the Lord grant him and Mat. Dunia many blessed years! Following the Divine Liturgy, during which Archpriest Joseph Oleynik brought relics of the Holy Innocents for veneration, there was an Open House in the rectory, which concluded with Christmas caroling. We extend our festive greetings to one and all, asking the Lord's continue blessing upon you and yours during this holy season!

On Sunday, December 29th, we kept the custom of St. Basil's Bread (The Vasilopeta). This year the coins were received by Alina Mellinger, Christiana Josephine Milite and Dominic Morsey. May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

During the Divine Liturgy of the Lord's Nativity, we were very pleased to receive Yvonne Eckerd into the Orthodox Church through Holy Chrismation. Yvonne has taken St. Anna, the mother of the Virgin Mary, as her patron saint. We sincerely congratulate her on this joyous occasion and we ask the Lord to grant her health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing, and many blessed years!

As the faithful gathered to celebrate the Nativity of the Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ according to the flesh, humbly ask the Lord's continued blessing upon you all for a joyous, peaceful and grace-filled festive season and New Year. Christ is born! Glorify Him!

On December 24, the Eve of the Lord's Nativity, we were very pleased to receive Marian Ridge into the Orthodox Church through Holy Chrismation. Marian has taken St. Mary Magdalene as her patron saint. We sincerely congratulate her on this joyous occasion and we ask the Lord to grant her health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing, and many blessed years!

On November 28, 2019, Thanksgiving Day, Archpriest Joseph Oleynik led the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, during which we gave thanks to Almighty God for all of His bounteous gifts bestowed in His love for mankind. We heartily congratulate Fr. Joseph on his anniversary of priestly ordination, and we wish him and Matushka Annice many more blessed years of fruitful service to the Church!

On Sunday, November 10th, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels. Other activities including a pinata, donut dangle, and various crafts. The St. Michael's Party also coincided with the parish Thanskgiving meal with the traditional foods and fixings. Many thanks to all who made this year's St. Michael's party and Thanksgiiving meal such a great success!

On Sunday, November 3, prayers were offered at the end of the Divine Liturgy for those in the healing ministries. We ask the Lord's continued blessings upon all those who work with Him in the healing of mankind's physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds and illnesses. May the Lord grant them many blessed years of faithful service to Him and their fellow man!

On Sunday, October 27, we were pleased to welcome Yvonne Eckerd into the catechumenate during the Divine Liturgy. We humbly ask the Lord's continued blessing upon her as she prepares herself for sacramental reception into the Orthodox Church!

On Saturday, October 26, Archpriest Thomas Soroka led an educational retreat here at Christ the Savior which was entitled, "A Christian Ending". The retreat covered a spiritual and practical approach to death from an Orthodox Christian perspective. The evening concluded with Great Vespers followed by a bonfire in the courtyard with hotdogs, smores, and sparklers for the kids. We thank Fr. Thomas for his very edifying presentation and appreciation is also sincerely expressed to all who donated and helped support the event! We give glory to God for a beautiful day! 

A fellowship event was held at the Pocomoke River Canoe Company on Saturday, 9/21 at 1pm. Following 1 hour on the river, there was a potluck back at the Parish Center, then a Bible Study at 5pm and the evening Vespers Service at 6pm. Glory to God for a beautiful day!

On Saturday, September 14, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This feast commemorates the finding of the true Cross by the Empress Helen in the 4th century. Fr. Joseph Oleynik blessed the community by bringing a reliquary containing stones from Golgotha where the Lord was crucified. The celebration of the Feast was punctuated by the 67th anniversary of Fr. Daniel Hubiak's ordination to the Holy Priesthood. We thank Fr. Joseph for the blessing, and we congratulation Fr. Daniel and Mat. Dunia on their anniversary of service to the Church. May the Lord grant them many more blessed years!

On Sunday, August 26th, at the beginning of the Academic Year, we asked the Lord's blessing upon the teachers and students. May the Lord enlighten and guide them into His divine truth!

On Tuesday, August 20, our catechumens travelled to Washington DC to visit St. Nicholas Cathedral (OCA) and St. John the Baptist Cathedral (ROCOR). The visit was part of an intensive period of study and spiritual preparation for sacramental reception into the Orthodox Church. We thank the two cathedrals for welcoming us and Protodeacon Leonid from St. John's for giving us an excellent tour!

On Thursday, August 15th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, which is the annual festal commemoration the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of the Virgin Mary, the Birthgiver of God. We were pleased to welcome a number of visitors including Protodeacon Gregory Moser, who coserved with Fr. John. After the Divine Services about 40 people went to the local Chick-Fil-A to continue to the celebration and fellowship. Glory to God for a beautiful feastday!

On Tuesday, August 6th, faithful parishioners and guests gathered to celebrate the Great Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Concelebrating with Fr. John was Dn. George Sharonoff. Following the Divine Liturgy, we had the customary blessing of grapes and other various fruit. Glory to God for a beautiful feastday!

On Monday, August 5th, we had the blessing of a new censor, to be used as we offer up to God incense together with our prayers during worship services. The censor was acquired from Romania and received as a donation from one of the parishioners. Before the blessing, Fr. John invited the children and adults to come forward and see the censor, while he explained its usage and spiritual function in the Orthodox Church.

On Sunday, July 21st, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, we had the annual Blessing of Chariots (cars, trucks, bikes, etc), punctuated this year by a small plane flyover. It is a custom of Orthodox Christians to have their cars blessed both when newly acquired and on or near the feast of the Prophet Elias (July 20th), as he ascended as if into heaven on a fiery chariot. With a temperature of 100+° the chariots were truly fiery! We thank God for a truly blessed day!

On Sunday, June 23rd, prayers were offered at the completion of the academic year, thanking the Lord for the blessing of His wisdom and knowledge, and asking Him to preserve the students in that which they have learned which is according to His divine law.

On Sunday, June 16, the following prayer was offered for the annual blessing of the pool: O Lord, how marvelous are Thy works. In wisdom hast Thou made them all. Send down Thy heavenly blessing upon this pool. Protect all who swim in it. Keep them safe as they enjoy the recreation and fellowship which it provides. For Thou art the Provider of every good gift, Who dost fill our hearts with joy and gladness, always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

On Sunday, June 16th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. As is customary, the Vespers with Kneeling Prayers was served immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We congratulation all who celebrate on this high holy day!

On Sunday, May 19, after two weeks' postponement, the children of the parish finally had their annual Paschal egg hunt. A good time was had by all!

On Sunday, May 12th, Lowen and Rachael Howard, together with their children, Judah, Lewis, and Martin, were enrolled into the catechumenate during the Divine Liturgy. We humbly ask the Lord's continued blessing upon them during their catechumenate as they prepare themselves for sacramental reception into the Orthodox Church!

On Sunday, April 28th, the faithful gathered for the Midnight service, celebrating the Feast of Feast, Holy Pascha, which commemorates the Resurrection of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. More than 100 people gathered for the celebration of the liturgical services which were followed by the blessing of foods and a festive meal in the hall and rectory. We greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

From April 21 - April 27, the faithful gathered at Christ the Savior to celebrated the solemn liturgical services of Great and Holy Week, which commemorates the Lord's voluntary Passion, His Cross, Death and Burial.

On Great and Holy Wednesday, April 24th, the faithful gathered for the Mystery of Holy Unction, the anointing with holy oil for the healing of soul and body. The Church’s practice of Holy Unction dates back to Apostolic times, see James 5:14.

On Palm Sunday, April 21st, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. A procession around the church was made while the faithful bore in their hands palms in honor of the festive occassion. Following the beautiful divine services, a traditional Bakaliaro fish meal was offered for all present. Glory be to God for all things!

On April 20, 2019, following the Divine Liturgy of Lazarus Saturday, we had the blessing of a new Holy Shroud to be used during the upcoming Holy Week and Pascha. The icon depicts Christ after He has been removed from the Cross, lying supine, as His Body is being prepared for burial. The scene is taken from the Gospel of St. John 19:38-42. The following hymn is embroidered around the edges of the icon: The Noble Joseph, taking down Thy most pure Body from the Tree, wrapped It in clean linen and sweet spices and laid it in a new tomb.

On Sunday, March 24, we celebrated the birthday of Matushka Dunia Hubiak, who together with her husband, Protopresbyter Daniel, has served the parish and faithful for many years in various capacities and countless ways. We heartily pray that the Lord grant her health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing, and many blessed years!

On Sunday, March 3rd, with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Tikhon, the 2019 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2019 Council, Larry Perrone was elected Junior Warden and Beth Keller Dunbar was elected Secretary. May the Lord bless them all!

On Sunday, February 24th, after the Divine Liturgy, there was a Women's Group outing to the Nori Sushi Bar and Grill in Ocean City, Maryland. A great time was had by all. Many thanks to the organizers of the event!

On Friday, January 18th parishioners from Christ the Savior joined other Orthodox Christians and hundreds of thousands of people who gathered for the March For Life in Washington, DC. The march is a pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital near the anniversary of the infamous decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. This year's group from Christ the Savior was led by Deacon Steven Hall.

On Saturday, January 19, 2019 there was a youth outing to Altitude Trampoline Park in Delmar, MD, followed by Great Vespers at the church in Berlin. A great time was had by all - glory to God!

On Sunday, January 6th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Great Feast of Theophany, which commemorates the Lord's Baptism in the Jordan River and the manifestation of the Holy Trinity. On the eve, we served the Great Blessing of Water during the festal vigil.

On Sunday, January 6th, the Feast of Holy Theophany, a newly handpainted icon of the Mother of God was blessed and placed for veneration. The iconographer, Mirona Bendfeldt, completed the icon as part of a set which presently includes the Icon Not-Made-By-Hands. Forthcoming icons may include St. John the Baptist and the North American Saints. May the Lord bless both Mirona for using her God-given talents to His glory as well as the anonymous donor of the icon and her prayerful intentions!

On Sunday, December 30th, we rejoiced to welcome into the Orthodox Church, Ruth Andreas through the Mysteries of Holy Chrismation and Holy Communion. We congratulate the newly-illumined handmaiden Ruth together with her entire family! On Sunday, December 30th, we sang Christmas Carols during the coffee hour as part of the ongoing celebration of the Lord's Nativity. Glory to God for the fellowship, festive foods, and beautiful singing!

On Friday, December 21st, parishioners gathered at the rectory for a Family Movie Night. We watched "The Nativity Story" (2006) which was followed by a comparison between the movie and the actual historical events surrounding the Savior's birth as recorded by the Church in her Holy Scriptures and tradition.

On Sunday, November 4th, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels. Other activities including a pinata, bobbing for apples, a donut tree, and various activities. Many thanks to all who made this year's St. Michael's party such a great success!

On Sunday, October 21st, we had the Baptism of Milana Ann, daughter of Mark and Tatiana Christensen. We congratulate them as well as the sponsors, Alexander Glubish and Oxana Napolova. May the Lord grant them all many years!

On Sunday, September 30th, at the end of the Divine Liturgy there was special blessing for the choir directors, members, and readers. This blessing, for both the adult and children's choir, will take place annually on the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Romanus the Melodist (October 1st). We ask that Lord's divine blessing upon them so that they might worthily fulfill this vital ministry.

On Friday, September 14th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross. The Feast commemorates the finding of the True Cross of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by Saint Helen, the mother of the saintly Emperor Constantine. On this feast, we also celebrated Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak's 66th anniversary of ordination to the Holy Priesthood. May the Lord grant him and Matushka Dunia many more blessed years of service to the Holy Church!

For the first time ever, Christ the Savior offered a Vacation Church School for the youth of the parish. The camp got off to a great start, with two dozen children participating and numerous volunteers coming together to lead the activities. Glory to God for all His many blessings!

On Sunday, June 17th, prayers were offered at the completion of the academic year, thanking the Lord for the blessing of His wisdom and knowledge, and asking Him to preserve the students in that which they have learned which is according to His divine law. It was also the civil holiday of Father's Day, and we were pleased to celebrate with the parish's founding priest, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, and Fr. John's seminary professor, Archpriest Daniel Kovalak, who was visiting from Williamsport, PA. We ask our Heavenly Father's blessing up them and all the fathers, god-fathers, spiritual fathers, and everyone else who celebrates on this Father's Day. Many blessed years to all!

On Sunday, May 6th, the church school program came to a close with a special art project. Sincere appreciation is expressed to our church school teachers, Nissa Nancy Hall and Pat McAlpin, as well as the parents, and all who assisted with the program.  May the Lord bless!

On April 28th, Sarah and Kevin where joined in Mystery of Holy Matrimony at Christ the Savior Orthodox Church. They were surrounded by family and friends from near and far. Officiating at the ceremony were Fr. John Nosal and Fr. John Parsells. We heartily congratulate them on this beautiful occasion, asking the Lord's blessing upon their new life together with Him!

On Thomas Sunday, April 15th, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. As we know, the egg is widely used as a symbol of the start of new life, just as new life emerges from an egg when the chick hatches out. However, there were of course no chicks in these eggs, just chocolate and candy - much to the delight of the children and the dread of their parents!

On Sunday, March 25th, in the afternoon, following the festive services for Annunication, Mat. Emily organized a massive surprise party for Fr. John's 40th birthday. Family, friends, and parishioners gathered from near and far for this joyous event, which to Fr. John's embarrassment and Mat. Emily's credit was in fact a total surprise to him. Sincere appreciation and love is expressed to all who made this day so memorable and joyous!

On Sunday, March 25th, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak offered a short lesson for the children of the parish on the Proskomedia (the Preparation for the Liturgy) and presented each child in the church with a proshora (church bread), which he used to commemorate them during the Divine Liturgy. Following the service, the wives of Fr. Daniel and Dn. Steven Hall, Matushka Dunia and Nissa Nancy, respectively, where given flowers in honor of their recent birthdays and in thanks for everything they do for the community. Glory to God for a beautiful feast of the Annunciation and for gifting this parish which such dedicated clergy and their wives!

On Sunday, February 25th, with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Tikhon, the 2018 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2018 Council, Patricia McAlpin was elected Senior Warden and Chad Michael Fortin was elected Treasurer. May the Lord bless them all!

In addition to reviewing the minutes from last year's meeting, the parish body heard reports from the rector, senior warden, junior warden, treasurer, and auditors. We recounted and gave thanks for all the great blessings we received during the past year, including celebrating the mission's elevation to full parish status!

On Friday, January 19th parishioners from Christ the Savior joined other Orthodox Christians and hundreds of thousands of people who gathered for the March For Life in Washington, DC. The march is a pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital near the anniversary of the infamous decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. This year marked the 45th anniversary and featured an address by President Donald Trump.  The opening prayer was led by Metropolitan Tikhon.

On Sunday, December 31st, the children of the parish put on a Christmas Pageant following the Divine Liturgy. Many thanks to all the teachers, parents, and children who did a great job! Christ is born! Glorify Him!

Congratulations to the recipients of St. Basil’s Coin: Fr. Daniel Hubiak and Sebastian Klimitchev. The other coins were in the pieces cut for the Lord Jesus and Elisabeth Parsells. Many Years to the recipients!

This year's celebration of the Lord's Nativity was very joyous in part due to the record attendance, as faithful parishioners and friends gathered for worship and fellowship on this high Holy Day. As we give thanks to God Almighty, we also ask His divine blessings upon one and all during this season of peace and spiritual joy! Christ is born! Glorify Him!

On Sunday, October 29th, prayers were offered at the end of the Divine Liturgy for those in the healing ministries. We ask the Lord's continued blessings upon all those who work with Him in the healing of mankind's physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds and illnesses. May the Lord grant them many blessed years of faithful service to Him and their fellow man!

On Sunday, October 29th, we had the Chrismation of Margaret Juliana LoGerfo. We sincerely congratulate her on this joyous occasion. May the Lord grant the newly-illumined handmainden of God, Margaret Juliana, many blessed years!

On Sunday, October 15th, the church school academic year began. Teachers this year are Nissa Nancy Hall and Patricia McAlpin. We ask the Lord's blessing upon them and all their students who today begin their studies anew in the way of the Lord.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon visited Christ the Savior from August 25-27 to: 1) raise the mission to full parish status, 2) celebrate the 90th birthday of Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, who is the church's founder, and 3) to lead the annual Diocesan Day celebration.

During the week of August 20-25, final preparations were made for the upcoming historic visit of Metropolitan Tikhon to Christ the Savior to elevate the mission to full parish status and celebrate the 90th birthday of its founder, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak.

On Sunday, August 6th, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, grapes and various fruits were blessed at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy.  We greet you all with the exclamation, "Joyous Feast!"

On Sunday, July 16th, the faithful of Christ the Savior gathered for the Divine Liturgy followed by the Blessing of Automobiles. This annual blessing occurs near the feast of the Prophet Elias (who ascended as if into heaven in a fiery chariot). On Sunday, June 18th, prayers were offered at the completion of the academic year, thanking the Lord for the blessing of His wisdom and knowledge, and asking Him to preserve the students in that which they have learned which is according to His divine law.

On Sunday, June 6th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. As is customary, the Vespers with Kneeling Prayers was served immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We congratulation all who celebrate on this high holy day!

On Sunday, May 28th, the following prayer was offered for the annual blessing of the pool: O Lord, how marvelous are Thy works. In wisdom hast Thou made them all. Send down Thy heavenly blessing upon this pool. Protect all who swim in it. Keep them safe as they enjoy the recreation and fellowship which it provides. For Thou art the Provider of every good gift, Who dost fill our hearts with joy and gladness, always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

On Wednesday, May 10th, on the Feast of Mid-Pentecost, we had the baptism of Walter Sterling Basil, son of Larry and Tara Casserly. We congratulate them as well as, Fr. On the Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing Women, April 30th, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. As we know, the egg is widely used as a symbol of the start of new life, just as new life emerges from an egg when the chick hatches out. However, there were of course no chicks in these eggs, just chocolate and candy - much to the delight of the children and the dread of their parents!

On Sunday, April 16th, the faithful gathered for the Midnight service, celebrating the Feast of Feast, Holy Pascha, which commemorates the Resurrection of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. Over 125 people gathered for the celebration of the liturgical services which were followed by the blessing of foods and a festive meal in the hall and rectory. We greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

From April 9 - April 15, the faithful gathered at Christ the Savior to celebrated the solemn liturgical services of Great and Holy Week, which commemorates the Lord's voluntary Passion, His Cross, Death and Burial.

On Great and Holy Wednesday, April 12th, the faithful gathered for the Mystery of Holy Unction, the anointing with holy oil for the healing of soul and body. The Church’s practice of Holy Unction dates back to Apostolic times, see James 5:14.

On Palm Sunday, April 9th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. The church was packed for this highly festive day. During the Divine Liturgy, Joseph Dunbar was received into the Orthodox Church through Holy Chrismation. Following the beautiful divine services, a traditional Bakaliaro fish meal was offered for all present. Glory be to God for all things!

On Friday March 10th, Dn. Steven Hall led a group of pilgrims from Christ the Savior to Four Evangelists in Bel Air, MD, where the miraculous Kardiotissa “Tender Heart” myrrh-flowing icon of the Virgin Mary from St. George Orthodox Church in Taylor, PA, was brought for veneration. A moleben (prayer service of supplication) to the Mother-of-God was served before the icon, followed by anointings.

On Sunday, March 5th, the local Orthodox parishes in Delmarva gathered at Christ the Savior in Berlin, MD for this year's solemn celebration of the Triumph of Orthodoxy. Serving with Fr. John were Archimandrite Vasilios from St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, MD and Protopresybter Daniel Hubiak, the founding priest of the mission. Many faithful gathered for the Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers which was followed by a lenten meal in the parish hall. Glory to God for such a beautiful day and for preserving His Church by Holy Orthodoxy!

On Sunday, February 12th, Robin Adelaide Armstrong was joined to the Orthodox Church through the mysteries of Holy Chrismation and Communion. On Sunday, January 15th, the Christ the Savior family celebrated the 90th birthday of Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, the founding priest of the Mission. We were pleased to welcome guests from near and far for the festivities, including Fr. John Jillions, chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, who read a letter from His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon on this auspicious occasion. We heartily congratulate Fr. Daniel and Matushka Dunia on this great milestone, and we ask the Lord God to continue His blessings upon them, granting them both health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing and many more blessed years!

On Friday, January 6th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Great Feast of Theophany, which commemorates the Lord's Baptism in the Jordan River and the manifestation of the Holy Trinity. On the eve, we served the Great Blessing of Water during the festal vigil.

On Sunday, January 1st, the children of the parish put on a Christmas Pageant following the Divine Liturgy. Afterwards, we enjoyed hearing the youngsters sing carols and perform instrumental pieces in the hall. Christ is born! Glorify Him!

On Sunday, January 1st, we kept the custom of St. Basil's Bread (The Vasilopeta). This year the coins were received by David McAlpin, Laurie Morsey, and Elisabeth Parsells. May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

As the faithful gathered to celebrate the Nativity of the Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ according to the flesh, we humbly asked the Lord's continued blessing upon you all for a joyous, peaceful and grace-filled festive season and New Year. Christ is born! Glorify Him!

On Sunday, November 6th, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels. Other activities including a pinata, a photo booth, donut tree, and various crafts. The St. Michael's Party also coincided with the parish Thanskgiving meal with the traditional foods and fixings. Many thanks to all who made this year's St. Michael's party and Thanksgiiving meal such a great success!

On Sunday, November 6th, we asked the Lord's blessing upon those in the healing ministries. May the Lord strengthen them in their efforts to bring healing and consolation to those suffering in body and soul, and may He grant them all many blessed years!

On Sunday, September 18th, we had the baptism of Eliana Maria, daughter of Jerry and Camelia Milite. We extend our congratulations to the entire family as well as the sponsors, Maksim and Ramona. May the Lord grant them all health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in every good thing, and many blessed years!

On Sunday, August 28th, at the beginning of the Academic Year, we asked the Lord's blessing upon the teachers and students. May the Lord enlighten and guide them into His divine truth!

On the weekend of August 20-21, 2016, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon was welcomed by Priest John Parsells and the faithful of Christ the Savior Mission, Berlin, MD.  The visit coincided with the burning of the mission’s mortgage—the $318,000.00 balance had been paid in full by an anonymous parishioner, fifteen years before it was due.

On Monday, August 15th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, which is the annual festal commemoration the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of the daughter of Adam who became the Mother of God, whom as the Scriptures say, shall be called blessed by all generations. We were pleased to welcome a number of visitors including Protodeacon Gregory Moser, who coserved with Fr. John.

On Sunday, August 7th, the parish celebrated the 10th anniversary of Fr. John's assignment to the mission. Deborah Wilson, senior warden, offered congratulatory remarks on behalf of the parish and presented a card and gifts to Fr. John and Matushka Emily. Following a parish photo, a festive luncheon was held in the parish hall. Thanks be to God and the good people of Christ the Savior for such a wonderful day!

An anonymous donor has paid off the remaining $318,000 on the church's mortgage!  We ask that Lord Almighty to bless this supremely generous donor together with their entire family and loved ones, granting them all health, strength, salvation and a furtherance in every good thing!

On Sunday, July 17th, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, we had the annual Blessing of Chariots.  It is a custom of Orthodox Christians to have their cars blessed both when newly acquired and on or near the feast of the Prophet Elias (July 20th), as he ascended as if into heaven on a fiery chariot.  On this day we were joined by numerous visitors include Archpriest Daniel Kovalak and Archpriest Thomas Soroka, who offered an inspiration sermon. We thank God for a truly blessed day!

As is customary, the Vespers for the Day of the Holy Spirit together with the Kneeling Prayers were served immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We also offered prayers for our teachers and students at the end of the academic year.

As we now enter into the Great and Holy Week, we ask the Lord's blessing to help us pass these all-revered days in godliness, commemorating the savings acts of His voluntary Passion, being incorporated into the mystery of His salvation, and looking to the bright and radiant celebration of Holy Pascha.

On Saturday, April 23rd, the Feast of the Raising of Lazarus, Chad Michael Fortin received the Sacrament of Baptism, becoming a member of the Holy Orthodox Church. We rejoice, together with Chad Michael and his sponsor, Andrew Hageman, on Chad's reception into the Body of Christ, and we ask the Lord to continue His divine blessings upon him, granting him health, strength, salvation, a furtherance in all good things, and many blessed years!

A good time was had by all and we thank those who helped make this event happened, especially Cecilia Wynat who led the class. On Sunday, February 28th, the Rite of Crowning was performed for Daniel and Kathleen Moss. We heartily congratulate them on this special day, asking the Lord's continued blessings upon them as they grown in their union with Him and each other!

On Sunday, February 14th, the two remains sets of gold and purple altar server vestments were blessed. These vestments were made by an Orthodox monastery in the Republic of Georgia. Appreciation is expressed to those who donated and prepared them. May the Lord bless!

In addition to reviewing the minutes from last year's meeting, the parish body heard reports from the rector, senior warden, junior warden, treasurer, auditors, lay-delegate to the OCA's All-American Council and the parish council on stewardship.

On Sunday, February 7th, new liturgical torches, to be used by the deacons and altar servers, were blessed before the Divine Liturgy. A new Gospel stand, fashioned by community members, was also blessed for the proclamation of the Good News. Appreciation is expressed to the donors and artificers.  May the Lord bless!

On Sunday, January 10th, Protopresbyter Daniel blessed the rectory in the Parish Center. Following the service for the annual blessing of a home, there was an open house in the rectory. Appreciation is expressed to Fr. Daniel as well as all who attended, prayed, prepared food, and shared in fellowship.

On Saturday, January 9th, faithful from Christ the Savior Mission joined St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, MD, for the annual blessing of the Atlantic Ocean. Many thanks to Fr. Vasileos and the community of St. George for hosting this wonderful event to the glory of God!

On Sunday, December 27th, children from the mission put on a small Christmas Pageant following the Divine Liturgy. The performance was enjoyed by all, and appreciation is expressed the organizers as well as parents. During the coffee hour, after the pageant, the community congratulated Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak on his upcoming 89th birthday, wishing him "Many Blessed Years!"

As the faithful gathered to celebrate the Nativity of the Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ according to the flesh, we were pleased to congratulate Chad Fortin who was enrolled into the catechumenate during the Christmas Liturgy! On Sunday, December 13th, three new sets of altar server vestments - red, blue, and green - were blessed. Two additional white vestments were also blessed, making 10 vestments of various sizes in each color for our altar servers. The remaining two liturgical colors - gold and purple - are hoped to be ready by February, 2016. We thank the donors, the tailors from the Republic of Georgia, as well as those who place the order and assisted with transit. May the Lord bless one and all!

On Saturday, November 14, the Archdiocese of Washington gathered at St. Nicholas Cathedral in DC for the annual assembly. Christ the Savior Mission sent Fr. John Parsells (clergy delegate), Cheryl Kokkinos (lay delegate) and Barbara Kaloroumakis (observer), who was tasked with auditing the Archdiocesan financial records this coming year. Appreciation is extended to all who represented our mission as well as all those who led and attended this year's assembly.

On Sunday, November 8th, the feast of the Archangel Michael and the Bodiless Powers, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels. A festive coffee hour was enjoyed by all as the children participated in the party's other activities, including a donut tree, bobbing for applies and a pinata. Many thanks to all who made this year's St. Michael's party such a great success!

On Saturday, April 25th, Orthodox Christians gathered together with other Americans in Washington DC for the third annual March For Marriage, which supports both natural, traditional marriage between one man and one woman as well as the right of every American to hold, profess, and practice his or her religious freedom without coersion or persecution from the State.

These Interviews with Fr. Daniel and Mat. Dunia Hubiak, conducted by Fr. John and Denise Jillions, took place on June 20, 2014. They are part of the series, "Gift and Grace: Stories of Orthodox Clergy and their Wives," sponsored by the Diocese of New York and New Jersey (Orthodox Church in America). In documenting the lives of senior Orthodox clergy the series, edited by Fr. John Shimchick, explores the sense of gift and the mystery of grace that uphold both marriage and ministry.

On Sunday, January 25th, the parishioners of Christ the Savior gathered together for their Annual Meeting. In addition to reviewing the minutes from last year's meeting, the parish body heard reports from the rector, senior warden, junior warden, treasurer, auditors, choir director and the parish council on stewardship.

On Friday, January 22nd, members of Christ the Savior traveled to Washington DC for the annual March For Life. The march is a pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital near the anniversary of the decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade.
Among the numerous Orthodox Christians who took part in the March were His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon; His Grace, Bishop Michael of New York and New Jersey; the OCA officers; faculty and students from Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA and Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, Yonkers, NY; and clergy and faithful of all ages from across the country, including a small contigent from Christ the Savior Mission in Berlin, MD.

On Sunday, January 11th, Protopresbyter Daniel blessed the rectory in the Parish Center. Following the service for the annual blessing of a home, there was an open house in the rectory. Appreciation is expressed to Fr. Daniel as well as all who attended, prayed, prepared food, and shared in fellowship.

On Saturday, January 10th, faithful from Christ the Savior Mission joined St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, MD, for the annual blessing of the Atlantic Ocean. The services were led by His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of the Greek Orthodox Church in America. Many thanks to Fr. Vasileos and the community of St. George for hosting this wonderful event to the glory of God!

On Sunday, December 28th, the Sunday before the feastday of St. Basil the Great (January 1st) we kept the custom of the Vasilopeta (St. Basil's Bread). This year the coins were received by Cheryl and Londy Kokkinos (one coin each), Will Wilkinson (one coin), and Elisabeth Parsells (one coin). May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

As we celebrate the great feast of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, according to the flesh, we greet you with the joyous exclamation, “Christ is born! On Sunday, December 14, we had the Baptism of Daniel Michael Oganyan. On Sunday, November 30th, we formally welcomed Deacon Steven Hall to Christ the Savior Mission. Dn. Steven and his wife, Diaconissa Nancy moved from St. Thomas the Apostle Mission in Waldorf, Maryland to Millsboro, Delaware, and we are very pleased to have them as part of our community. May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

On Sunday, November 2nd, the children participated in our annual St. Michael's party, by dressing as saints and angels. Other activities including pumpkin bowling, donut tree, a bonfire, and various crafts. New this year were a popcorn-maker, snow cones, and cotton candy. Many thanks to all who made this year's St. Michael's party such a great success!

On Sunday, November 2nd, prayers were offered at the end of the Divine Liturgy for those in the healing ministries. We ask the Lord's continued blessings upon all those who work with Him in the healing of mankind's physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds and illnesses. May the Lord grant them many blessed years of faithful service to Him and their fellow man!

On Sunday, September 14th, the feast of the Exaltation of the Precious Cross, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, founding priest of the mission, celebrated his 62nd anniversary of ordination to the Holy Priesthood. Congratulations were offered and "Many Years" were sung to both Fr. Daniel and Mat. Dunia on this joyous day. We also congratulation them on their upcoming 63rd wedding anniversary, September 16th.  May the Lord grant them many more blessed years of marriage and service to His Holy Church!

On the weekend of September 6-7, 2014, Christ the Savior Mission hosted a spiritual retreat entitled, "The Treasures of Ancient Christianity". His Beatitude Metropolitan TIKHON led the retreat and the Synodal Youth Choir performed a concert with hymns from the ancient Liturgy of the Church as well as sang the responses during the divine services. We give thanks to Almighty God and to all who make this blessed weekend possible!

On Sunday, August 31st, prayers were offered for teachers and students on the occasion of the new academic year. May God grant His wisdom and understanding to them all!

On Sunday, August 24th, there was a group outing of the church family to see a Shorebirds game. The Shorebirds ended up losing the game but a great time was had by all. We chose to attend this game because it was the Shorebird's Strike Out Hunger Sunday which collected canned food items for distribution to local food banks. Well done, Shorebirds!

On Friday, August 15th, the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, flowers and various herbs were blessed at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy.

On Wednesday, August 6th, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, grapes and various fruits were blessed at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy.  Following the Divine Services a pool party was held for those in attendance and other guests of the church.

On Sunday, July 20th, the feast of the Prophet Elias, the faithful of Christ the Savior gathered for the Divine Liturgy followed by the Blessing of Chariots. We were pleased to welcome numerous visitors including Fr. Daniel Kovalak, who delivered as inspired homily. Glory to God for a grace-filled day!

On Saturday, June 21st, we welcomed Archpriest Mark Koczak for the Baptism of Liam Alexander Moss. We congratulate Liam, his parents, Daniel and Kathleen, his godparents, as well as the entire family on this joyous occasion. May the Lord grant the newly illumined servant of God, Liam Alexander, many blessed years!

On Sunday, June 15th, we had the Baptism of Nicholas David Reynolds. We congratulate him, his parents, Daniel and Elena, his godparents, Constantine Mitsopoulos and Gabriela Vlahovici-Jones, as well as the entire family on this joyous occasion. On Sunday, June 8, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. During the Vespers which followed the Divine Liturgy, the faithful held flowers, reminding them of the new life that has blossomed forth with the descent of the Holy Spirit. Special prayers were read by Fr. Daniel and Fr. John while we knelt and beseeched the Holy Spirit to renew Himself within us.

On Sunday, May 25th, a prayer was offered for the annual blessing of the pool: O Lord, how marvelous are Thy works. In wisdom hast Thou made them all. Send down Thy heavenly blessing upon this pool. Protect all who swim in it. Keep them safe as they enjoy the recreation and fellowship which it provides. For Thou art the Provider of every good gift, Who dost fill our hearts with joy and gladness, always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

On Sunday, May 11th, we were pleased to have the blessing of our new parish icon, the "Icon Not-Made-By-Hands". This icon is a handpainted copy of the original icon made by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself and given to King Abgar of Edessa. On this day we also honored our mothers who were celebrating Mother's Day, and we gave thanks to God our Father, Who has given us the Church as our Mother. "To Him be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:21

On Sunday, May 4th, we had the Baptism of Annabelle Lee Elton. We congratulate her, her mother, Olga, her godmother, Marina, as well as the entire family on this joyous occasion. May the Lord grant the newly illumined handmaiden of God, Annabelle, many blessed years!

On Sunday, April 20th, the faithful gathered for the Midnight service, celebrating the Feast of Feast, Holy Pascha, which commemorates the Resurrection of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. Some 125 people gathered for the celebration of the liturgical services which were followed by the blessing of foods and a festive meal in the hall and rectory. We greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

From April 13 - April 19, the faithful gathered at Christ the Savior to celebrated the solemn liturgical services of Great and Holy Week, which commemorates the Lord's voluntary Passion, His Cross, Death and Burial.

On Palm Sunday, April 13th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. This highly festive day was punctuated with excellent attendance, the beautiful divine services, and a wonderful fish meal. As we now enter into the Great and Holy Week, we ask the Lord's blessing to help us pass these all-revered days in godliness, commemorating the savings acts of His voluntary Passion, being incorporated into the mystery of His salvation, and looking to the bright and radiant celebration of Holy Pascha.

During the evening hours of Annunciation, March 25th, snow began to fall in Delmarva. The following photos were taken the next morning, capturing some of the beauty as well as the damage from the last (hopefully) snow storm of the season.

On the Sunday of the Cross, March 23rd, the Christ the Savior Mission welcomed Archpriest Mark Koczak, chairman of the Mission's Board for the Archdiocese of Washington. Some 93 people gathered to worship the Lord and venerate His precious and life-creating Cross, singing the hymn: "Before Thy Cross, we bow down in worship, O Master, and Thy holy resurrection we praise and glorify!"

On Sunday, February 23rd, with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Tikhon, the 2014 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2014 Council, Cheryl Kokkinos was elected Senior Warden, George Kaloroumakis was elected Junior Warden, and Michael McFarland was elected Treasurer; Deborah Wilson remains Secretary. May the Lord bless them all!

On Saturday, January 11th, faithful from Christ the Savior Mission joined St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, MD, for the annual blessing of the Atlantic Ocean. The services were led by Protopresbyter Kosmas Karavellas from Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, MD. Many thanks to Fr. Vasileos and the community of St. George for hosting this wonderful event to the glory of God!

On January 6th, the faithful gathered for the celebration of Holy Theophany, commemorating the Lord Jesus Christ's baptism in the Jordan River and the revelation of the Holy Trinity. The Great Blessing of Water was served by Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, the founding priest of the Mission.

On December 29, 2013, we continued to celebrate the Nativity of the Lord, with an Open House in the rectory. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, we kept the ancient custom of St. Basil's Bread, with the golden coin being received by Monk Christian (Lesinsky). On this day, we also congratulated Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak on his 87th birthday - may the Lord grant him and Mat. Dunia many more blessed years! Finally, on this day, we reached our goal of raising 30K to repay a short term 0% interest loan generously offered by a benefactor for renovations required to the Parish Center. We have so many to thank, and we offer glory and thanks to God for all things, including such a wonderful day with so many blessings!

This year's celebration of the Lord's Nativity was punctuated with record attendance, as faithful parishioners and friends gathered for worship and fellowship on this high Holy Day. The founding priest of the Mission, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, led the community in the Divine Liturgy, which was followed by a festive coffee hour. As we give thanks to God Almighty, we also ask His divine blessings upon one and all during this season of peace and spiritual joy! Christ is born! Glorify Him!

On Saturday, November 16th, the 2013 Diocesan Assembly was held at St. Matthew's Orthodox Church in Columbia, MD. Representing Christ the Savior Mission were Fr. John Parsells, Fr. Daniel Hubiak, Kathy Parrish, Cheryl Kokkinos, George Kaloroumakis, Constantine Mitsopoulos, and Bill Parrish. Appreciation is extended to all who travelled for the assembly. On Sunday, August 18th, at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, prayers were offered for the suffering people of Egypt, Syria, and throughout the world, especially those who are being persecuted for their Christian faith.

On Sunday, August 4th, we had the Baptism of Augustine Theodore Stewart. We congratulate him, his parents, Chad and Maria, his godparents, Andrew and Kelly Hageman, as well as the entire Stewart family on this joyous occasion. May the Lord grant the newly illumined servant of God, Augustine Theodore, many blessed years!

On Sunday, July 28th, over 90 people gathered from near and far to celebrate the Divine Liturgy. Among the serving clergy were Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, Archpriest Daniel Kovalak, Archpriest Thomas Soroka, Priest John Parsells, and Deacon Mark Oleynik. Following the Divine Liturgy, many stayed for the fellowship hour and the open pool. It was a joy to have the venerable clergy as well as all of the faithful visitors to the Mission. Glory and thanks be to God for a beautiful day!

On Sunday, July 21st, the faithful of Christ the Savior gathered for the Divine Liturgy followed by the Blessing of Automobiles. This annual blessing occurs on the Sunday closest to the feast of the Prophet Elias (who ascended as if into heaven in a fiery chariot).

On the weekend of July 6-7th, the faithful welcomed His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon for his second archpastoral visit to Christ the Savior Mission. On Saturday evening, Met. Tikhon met with parishioners for discussion before the Great Vespers service. On Sunday morning, at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Met. Tikhon blessed an icon of the Saints of North America, which had been given to the parish by Archpriest David Straut.

On Sunday, June 23rd, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. As is customary, the Vespers with Kneeling Prayers was served immediately following the Divine Liturgy. On this day, we also bid farewell to Richard and Charlotte England who are relocating to Illinois. We ask the Lord's continued blessings upon them, both in this life and the one to come!

On Sunday, June 16th, prayers were offered at the completion of the academic year, thanking the Lord for the blessing of His wisdom and knowledge, and asking Him to preserve the students in that which they have learned which is according to His divine law.

On Sunday, June 2nd, Gregory and Danyella Mary Parsells were united in the mystery of Holy Matrimony. Following the service, everyone stayed for the reception at the Parish Center. We heartily congratulate the newly wed couple, Gregory and Danyella, asking the Lord's divine blessings upon them. On Sunday, June 2nd, after four weeks' postponement, the children of the mission finally had their annual Paschal egg hunt. A good time was had by all, and then everyone took a swim for the first time this season in the newly opened pool.

On Sunday, May 5th, the faithful and friends of the Mission gathered to celebrate the Feast of feasts, the Holy day of holy days, Great and Holy Pascha - the Resurrection of Christ. This historic day, the first Pascha at the new property in Berlin, drew over 100 people who gathered for the liturgical services and a festal meal in the parish hall and rectory. We greet you all with the eternally joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed, He is risen!"

From April 29 - May 4, the faithful gathered at Christ the Savior to celebrated the solemn liturgical services of Great and Holy Week, which commemorates the Lord's voluntary Passion, His Cross, Death and Burial.

On April 28th, Palm Sunday, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem. This joyous occasion was punctuated with the blessing of a new Golgotha and the welcoming of Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, the mission's founding priest, together with many friends and faithful from near and far.

On April 27th, Lazarus Saturday, Chad and Maria Stewart were recieved into the Orthodox Church together with their children. We rejoice with them on this bright and joyous occasion, and we ask the Lord's continued blessings upon them, granting them health, strength, salvation, furtherance in all good things, and many blessed years!

On Friday, April 26th, the eve of Lazarus Saturday, the stucco project, which began on March 18th, finally came to completion. Apprecation is extended to those who donated towards this work as well as those who labored so hard to complete it before Holy Week. Glory and thanks to be God!

On Saturday, April 13th, a group of parishioners from the mission traveled to Baltimore for a lenten retreat at Holy Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The theme of the retreat, led by Fr. Josiah Trenham, was “The Church as a Spiritual Hospital: God’s Design for the Cure of the Soul”. May the Lord bless all those who made this retreat possible as well as all those who made the pilgrimage for their spiritual edification and mutual encouragement!

On March 18th, work began on one of the last phases of the renovation to the Parish Center: the stuccoing of the walls of the chapel. Work is expected to continue over the next two to three weeks. The mission is currently looking for donors to help complete this project which is estimated to cost $5000. Currently the project is being funded by a short-term loan from one of the families of the church. Please consider offering your financial support to help complete this important work.

On Monday, March 25th, the great feast of the Annunciation, Danyella Mary Parsells was received into the Orthodox Church by Holy Baptism and Chrismation. We heartily congratulate her, together with her family, on this joyous occasion. We ask the Lord, through the prayerful intercessions of the Most-holy Theotokos and St. Mary of Egypt, to grant the newly-illumined handmaiden of God, Danyella Mary, many blessed years!

On Sunday, January 27th, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon was enthroned in the nation's capital at St. Nicholas Cathedral as Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All American and Canada. Members of Christ the Savior traveled to join the hierarchs, clergy and faithful in prayer and festive celebration. May the Lord grant Metropolitan Tikhon many blessed years!

On the weekend of December 29-30, we welcomed His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon for his first archpastoral visit to Christ the Savior Mission. Approximately seventy people gathered from near and far for this festive and celebratory weekend. Joining His Beatitude were Archpriest David Straut, Protodeacon Joseph Matusiak, and Subdeacon Roman Ostash.

On Sunday, November 18th, Danyella Sandul was received into the catechumenate, thereby entering into a period of more intense study and preparation for formal reception into the Orthodox Church. May the Lord's blessings be upon her as she continues on the straight and narrow path which leads to eternal life!

On Monday, October 30th, Hurricane Sandy made landfall, bringing with it much rain and high winds, causing loss of life and property to many. We, at Christ the Savior, offer sincere sympathy to those affected by this terrible storm, and we offer humble prayer to Almighty God for their consolation in this time of sorrow. We also offer Him gratitude for mitigating the damage which potentially could have been even worse.

On Friday, October 26th, a new chandelier was installed in our chapel. The chandelier was designed and manufactured by New World Byzantine Studios, nwbstudios.com. The design in the disk is adapted from a 6th-century communion patten, and the chain ornaments bear 6-bar crosses. May the Lord bless the donors for their generosity!

On Sunday, October 7th, Orthodox Christians and faithful residents from Delmarva gathered at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, MD, for a prayer service before the miraculous, myrrh-streaming Iveron Icon from Hawaii.

On Friday, October 5th, the process of gold leafing the icons in our chapel began. Gold is used to sybolically represent the heavenly radiance which shines forth from the icons of the Savior and the saints. Appreciation is extended to those who donated to continue the work of beautifying the Lord's House.

Congratulations are offered to Kaloyan and Iryna Rusanova on the baptism of their son, Kevin. May the Lord grant the newly enlightened Kevin, together with his parents and godparents, Stanislav Angelov Georgiev and Olga Klymuk, many blessed years!

On Sunday, September 16th, Chad and Maria Stewart and their children, were received into the catechumenate, thereby entering into a period of more intense study and preparation for formal reception into the Orthodox Church. We wish them God's continued blessings as we journey together with them to His Heavenly Kingdom!

On Sunday, September 9th, the faithful and friends of Christ the Savior gathered for the Divine Liturgy followed by the 2012 Annual Picnic. After a raining early morning, the sun came out and a great time was had by all. Many thanks to all who helped make the picnic so great this year!

On Sunday, September 2nd, prayers were offered for teachers and students on the occasion of the new academic year. May God grant His wisdom and understanding to them all!

On September 1st, the Church New Year, the installation of the stone floor in the chapel was completed. We sincerely thank the donors and laborers for the truly beautiful stone work with which our chapel is now adorned. May the Lord’s blessing be upon them and upon you all as we enter the new liturgical year! 

On Thursday, August 16th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of the Icon Not-Made-By-Hands. Following the Divine Liturgy a short molieben of thanksgiving was offered, during which we thanked the Lord for His numerous blessings upon our little Mission. Afterwards there was a pool party / barbeque for all who gathered to celebrate. Glory to God for all things!

On Monday, August 6th, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, grapes and various fruits were blessed at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, eight new icons where blessed for the walls on the new chapel. These icons depict the following events from the life of the Lord.

On Sunday, July 22nd, the faithful of Christ the Savior gathered for the Divine Liturgy followed by the annual Blessing of Automobiles. Among the guests visiting the Mission were Rev. Costa Petrogeorge, who offered an inspired homily, Rev. Barnabas Fravel and Pdn. Gregory Moser, who assisted at the altar table.

On the weekend of July 7-8, the faithful welcomed His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, together with friends of the Mission from both near and far for the celebratory festivities of "Opening Weekend". Over 100 people gathered on this weekend as we offered thanks to the Lord and those who worked together with Him for the acquisition and beautification of the new Parish Center in Berlin, Maryland.

On the weekend of June 9th and 10th, the faithful from the community as well as visitors and friends from afar gathered for the blessing of and first Divine Services in the new chapel. This historic occasion was punctuated with the Baptism of Ana Lucia, whom we wish "Many Blessed Years!" We offer up thanks and glorification to God who has brought this all to pass, and we extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who help to make this happen!

On Thursday, February 9th, we received our building permit from Worcester County and immediately began renovations to the new Parish Center. It is hoped that renovations would be complete in the next two months so that the faithful might celebrate Holy Pascha in their new facilities. Check back often as this page will be updated as the work continues!

On Pentecost Sunday, June 3rd, the faithful of Christ the Savior Mission celebrated their last services in Dagsboro, Delaware. At the conclusion of Liturgy and Vespers, the community packed up the church and moved to the new Parish Center in Berlin, Maryland, where the first Divine Services will be celebrated on the weekend of June 9th and 10th. We warmly welcome you all to join us at our new facilities, which are located at 10315 Carey Road, Berlin, Maryland 21811.

On Myrrh-bearing Women Sunday, April 29th, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. We also bid farewell to Andrei and Lena who are moving to Minnesota and taking their leave from our parish. May the Lord always bless and keep them!

The services of Holy Week, and Pascha were celebrated at Christ the Savior from April 8th through April 15th. Many parishioners, family, and friends gathered for these most solemn liturgical celebrations of the Lord's Passion, Death, and Resurrection. We, at Christ the Savior, greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!" 

On Sunday, February 26th, with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Jonah, the 2012 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2012 Council, Kathy Parrish was elected Senior Warden and Bruce Eckerd was elected Treasurer. May the Lord bless them all!

On Sunday, January 29th, the parishioners of Christ the Savior gathered together for the Annual Meeting. In addition to reviewing the minutes from last year's meeting, the Parish heard reports from the rector, senior warden, junior warden, treasurer, and auditors.

On Saturday, January 14th, members of Christ the Savior joined Fr. John Stavropoulos and St. George's Greek Orthodox Church of Ocean City, MD, for their annual Blessing of the Atlantic Ocean. The festivities were led by His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. Many thanks to Fr. John and the community of St. George for hosting this wonderful event to the glory of God!

Today we extend our festal greetings to you all as we celebrate the Nativity of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ! We humbly ask the Lord's blessing upon you for a joyous, peaceful and grace-filled festive season and new year. Christ is born! Glorify Him!

On Friday, December 2nd, Christ the Savior Mission closed on its new property, located at 10315 Carey Road, Berlin, MD 21811. This 15.1 acre property has a 4300 square-foot home which will serve as the new parish center, housing a chapel, fellowship hall, and rectory. We give thanks to Almighty God who has guided and blessed this endeavor! We also extend sincere and heartfelt appreciation to those who, inspired by divine grace, selflessly sacrificed to make this happen!

A Letter to the Benefactors of Christ the Savior Mission: It is with profound gratitude that I write to you on behalf of Christ the Savior Mission in Delmarva for with your help and by the grace of God, we have successfully met our $20,000 matching donation challenge! In fact, due to your generosity, we have not only raised the $20,000 – which has already been matched by the anonymous donor – but we have actually done this with two months to spare!

On Wednesday, October 19th, the Myrrh-streaming Iveron Icon of Hawaii visited St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, Maryland. The faithful from the area packed the church for this special occasion, offering a supplicatory canon, venerating the icon, and then being anointed with the holy myrrh which miraculously streams forth from the icon bringing consolation and healing.

On Sunday, October 9th, the Feast of St. Tikhon, the Enlightener of North America, the parishioners of Christ the Savior Mission assembled for a Special Parish Meeting and voted unanimously to purchase a 15.1 acre, 4300 square foot estate located at 10315 Carey Road, Berlin, MD, to serve as their parish center.

On Sunday, August 21st, Kathryn Rose received Holy Baptism, beginning her life in Christ. We congratulate her, her parents, Rob and Jenny, her sponsers, Matthew and Sophia, as well as their whole family. May the Lord grant them all many blessed years!

On Friday evening, August 19th, Lee Gregory Krempel and Jamyla Williams were united in holy matrimony. We, the faithful of Christ the Savior, congratulate them on this joyous occasion and we ask that the Lord who has united them, blessing their marriage as He did the marriage in Cana of Galilee, continue to grant them health, strength, salvation, and furtherance in all good things for many blessed years!

On Sunday, July 17th, we had the annual blessing of automobiles, which occurs on the Sunday closest to the feast of the Prophet Elias (who ascended as if into heaven in a fiery chariot). We were pleased to welcome the youth group of St. Mark's Orthodox Church in Bethesda, MD.

On Sunday, July 3, 2011, we welcomed the Hageman family into the Orthodox Church through Holy Baptism and Chrismation. We extend our joyous congratulations to Andrew, Kelly Elisabeth, Oscar Ignatius, and Alma Linda Irene! May the Lord continue to bless their family, granting them health, strength, salvation, and many blessed years!

On Saturday, July 2nd, we had our annual summer yard sale. The weather was hot but the snow cones were cold, and the event was well supported both by parishioners who hosted the sale and also by the local community who came to purchase items. The event raised over $1300 for our building fund. Many thanks to all!

On June 24-26, nearly a dozen members of the Mission traveled to New York and New Jersey to visit churches and to attend a seminar on Orthodox Architecture at St. Vladimir's Seminary given by Andrew Gould of New World Byzantine.

On Sunday, June 12, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of
Pentecost which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the
Apostles fifty days after the Lord rose from the dead. As is customary,
the Vespers for the Day of the Holy Spirit together with the Kneeling
Prayers were served immediately following the Divine Liturgy.

With the help of John Kokkinos, a parishioner from nearby St. George's, a new English text was installed into our Gospel Book. John is an expert craftsman, who has offered his talents to the Orthodox Church on similar projects, such as preparing a beautiful riza for the myrrh-streaming Iveron icon of Hawaii.

The services of Holy Week, and Pascha were celebrated at Christ the Savior from April 17th through April 24th. Many parishioners, family, and friends gathered for these most solemn liturgical celebrations of the Lord's Passion, Death, and Resurrection. We, at Christ the Savior, greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

On Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011, over seventy people gathered for the celebration of the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem as well as the reception of the Morsey family into the Orthodox Church through Holy Chrismation.

On March 21-22, a group of faithful from Christ the Savior and the Salisbury University OCF made a lenten pilgrimage to St. Tikhon's Orthodox Monastery and Seminary in South Canaan, PA.

On Sunday, March 20th, our excellent seamstresses from our parish, Diane Evanusa and Alice Peters sewed new blue liturgical covers which we will use for Annunciation this coming Friday. May the Lord reward them for their efforts!  

Over the years, our parish has been blessed with many young children. As we all know very well, their innocence, simplicity and indefatigable zeal for life provide a great example for us to emulate as we seek to enter the Kingdom by becoming childlike. In an effort to give back to our children and their parents, we have decided to purchase a new sound system for the church.

On Sunday, February 13th, with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Jonah, the 2011 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2011 Council, Alice Peters was elected Junior Warden and Deborah Wilson was elected Secretary. May the Lord bless them all! 

On Monday, January 24th, members of Christ the Savior traveled to Washington DC for the annual March For Life. The march is a pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital near the anniversary of the decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. Many marchers also protest the use of euthanasia.

On Sunday, January 9th, Eric Daniel, son of Andrey and Anna, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Eric Daniel, his parents, and his sponsor, Vladimir, many blessed years! 

On Saturday, January 8th, members of Christ the Savior joined Fr. John Stavropoulos and St. George's Greek Orthodox Church of Ocean City, MD, for their annual Blessing of the Atlantic Ocean. The festivities were led by His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. Many thanks to Fr. John and the community of St. George for hosting this wonderful event to the glory of God!

On the weekend of January 1-2, 2011, the faithful of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church welcomed His Beatitude Metropolitan Jonah, together with special guests and visitors, for the 10th anniversary celebration of the Mission's founding.

We extend to you all festal greetings on the Nativity of our Lord, God, and Savior, Jesus Christ!  May the presence of Emmanuel, “God with us”, continue to fill your minds with wonder, your hearts with love, and every aspect of your lives with His divine grace! Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

We ask that prayers be offered on behalf of the newly departed servant of God, Melvin Nicholas Woodell, who reposed on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at the Delmar nursing home. May his memory be eternal! May his soul dwell among the righteous!

On Tuesday, November 9th, the feast of St. Nectarios of Aegina, members of Christ the Savior joined St. George's Orthodox Church in Ocean City, MD, for the Divine Liturgy, anointing with oil from the tomb of the Saint, and a festive meal.

On Sunday, November 7th, the Sunday between Halloween and the feast of the Holy Angels (celebrated on Nov. 8th), a St. Michael's Party was held for the children of the parish.

On Sunday, November 1st, as the faithful celebrated the feast of St. John Kuchurov, a special blessing was offered for those in the healing ministries.

On the weekend of October 23-25, about a dozen members of the mission made a pilgrimage to St. Tikhon's Monastery and Seminary in South Canaan, Pennsylvania.

On Sunday, September 19th, following the Divine Liturgy, everyone made their way over the Constantine's condo on the beach for the 2010 annual picnic. The weather was spectacular and a great time was had by all!

On Tuesday, September 14th, the feast of the Exaltation of the Precious Cross, the faithful gathered for the celebration of the Divine Services and Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak's 58th anniversary of ordination to the Holy Priesthood.

Each year on August 16th, when the Church commemorates the revealing of the Icon Not-Made-By-Hands, Christ the Savior Mission celebrates its parish feastday. The celebration this year was especially joyous as the Mission, established in 2000, sent up its thanks to God for 10 years of His Almighty protection and blessings!

On Sunday, August 15th, the Mission celebrated the Dormition of Virgin Mary, which commemorates her death, burial, and resurrection, following the footsteps of her Divine Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

On Wednesday evening, August 11th, the faithful gathered at the church for the Paraklesis (Service of Supplication) to the Mother of God. This service is offered whenever a specific need arises, as well as by custom during the Dormition Lent.

On Sunday, August 1st, Zoe Marie, daughter of John and Oana Cullen, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Zoe, her parents, her sister Eva, and her sponsors, Slyvio and Anna Marie, many blessed years!

On Sunday, July 18th, the faithful of Christ the Savior gathered for the Divine Liturgy followed by the annual Blessing of Automobiles. Among the guests visiting the Mission were VRev. Michael Westerberg, who offered an inspired homily, and Dn. Alexander Cadman, who assisted at the altar table.

On Saturday, July 3rd, we had our summer yard sale. The weather was beautiful and the event was well supported both by parishioners who hosted the sale and also by the local community who came to purchase items. A great day was had by all. We thank everyone for making this yard sale the most successful we've ever had!

On Sunday, June 27th, Caleb Joseph, son of Michael and Nada McFarland, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Caleb, his parents, and his sponsors, Nick and Anna Evanusa, many blessed years! 

On Sunday, June 6th, we offered prayers of thanksgiving to God for the conclusion of the academic year. Likewise we honored those who have graduated this year. Blessed is God who enlightens every man who comes into the world!

On Saturday, May 8th, members of Christ the Savior traveled to Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Jersey City, NJ, for the consecration of His Grace Bishop Michael (Dahulich). Fr. John was a student of Bishop Michael, who formerly served as Dean of St. Tikhon's Seminary before being elected Bishop of New York and New Jersey.

On Thomas Sunday, April 11th, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. As we know, the egg is widely used as a symbol of the start of new life, just as new life emerges from an egg when the chick hatches out. However, there were of course no chicks in these eggs, just chocolate and candy - much to the delight of the children and the dread of their parents!

On Sunday, April 4th, the faithful gathered for the celebration of the Lord's Resurrection - Holy Pascha. Following the "Midnight Service", a festal meal was shared in the church. We greet you with the joyous proclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is Risen!"

On Palm Sunday, March 28th, the faithful gathered to celebrated the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. In remembrance of this day, and with anticipation of the Lord's victory over death on Holy Pascha, we carry palms and pussy-willows.

Orthodox Church through the Mysteries of Baptism and Chrismation. We

On the weekend of March 20-21, members of Christ the Savior traveled to NJ for the exhibit, "Architecture as Icon" at Princeton University, and to attend the Divine Services at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell and Ss. Peter & Paul Church in Manville.

On Sunday, January 10th, the church and its members were blessed with the holy water sanctified on Theophany. Following the Divine Liturgy, the church school lesson was on how Christ blessed the water of the Jordan River by His Baptism. After the class the children made beautifully decorated jars to bring the holy water to their homes for use by their families.

On Sunday, January 3rd, the Sunday after the feastday of St. Basil the Great (January 1st) we kept the custom of the Vasilopeta (St. Basil's Bread). This year the coins were received by Nada & Jacob McFarland (one coin), Alice Peters (one coin), and Kenny Marchick (one coin). May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

Today the faithful gathered at the Mission to glorify the God who out of His infinite love took flesh for us men and our salvation. We extend to you our festal greetings, wishing you all the blessings that come from the super-abundance of God's goodness. Christ is born! Glorify Him!

On November 1st, the Sunday between Halloween and the Feast of Archangel Michael and the Bodiless Powers, a St. Michael's Party was held for the children of the parish.

On Saturday, October 31st, after twice being postponed due to adverse weather conditions, our fall yard sale was finally held in the church parking lot.

On Saturday evening Bruce John Eckerd was welcomed into the Orthodox Church through the Mysteries of Holy Baptism and Chrismation. Bruce assumed the name of John in honor of his patron Saint, the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John whose feast is celebrated on this day. May God grant His newly-illumined servant John many blessed years! 

On the weekend of August 29-30, Christ the Savior Orthodox Church welcomed its diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Jonah for his first archpastoral visit to the Mission.

On Sunday, August 23rd, Christiana Josephine, daughter of Gerald and Camelia Milite, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Christiana Josephine, her parents, and her sponsors, Lucian and Gabriela, many blessed years! Serving with Fr. John was Fr. Andrew Anderson, who delivered an excellent homily on forgiveness.

On Sunday, August 16th, the faithful of Christ the Savior celebrated the feast of their parish with the commemoration of the Icon Not-Made-By-Hands. We extend to all of our members, visitors, and supporters our best wishes on this special day. May God grant you all many blessed years!

On Sunday, July 26th, we celebrated the feast of St. Jacob of Alaska, among those visiting were Fr. Daniel Kovalak, Fr. Barnabas Fravel, and Dn. Mark Oleynik. Fr. Daniel offered an inspiring homily on the life of St. Jacob as a example for all Orthodox Christians in North America.

Following the Blessing of Automobiles, the parish gathered together at the Boris residence for the Annual Picnic. The weather was cool, the food excellent, the kayaks in the water, and a great time was had by all. Many thanks to the Boris family, who hosted, and all who participated!

On Sunday, July 19th, we had the annual blessing of automobiles, which occurs on the Sunday closest to the feast of the Prophet Elias (who ascended as if into heaven in a fiery chariot). We were pleased to welcome Fr. Thomas Soroka who gave an excellent homily on chapter 12 of St. Paul's Epistle to the Romans.

On Sunday, July 12th, we congratulated those who graduated this year and we offered prayers of thanksgiving to God for the completion of the academic year. Visiting the Mission this Sunday and serving with Fr. John was Archpriest Samuel Kedala from Holy Spirit Orthodox Church in Wantage, NJ.

On Sunday, June 14th, Constantine Michael, son of Michael and Katherine Cook, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Constantine Michael, his parents, and his sponsors, Peter and Helen, many blessed years! 

On Sunday, June 7, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. During the Vespers which followed the Divine Liturgy, the faithful held flowers, reminding them of the new life that has blossomed forth with the descent of the Holy Spirit. Special prayers were offered while we knelt and beseeched the Holy Spirit to renew Himself within us.

On Monday, June 1st, our excellent seamstresses from our parish, Diane Evanusa, Alice Peters, Nada McFarland, and Mat. Emily sewed new green liturgical covers which we will use for Pentecost this coming Sunday. May the Lord reward them for their efforts! 

On Monday, May 25th, members of the Mission traveled to St. Tikhon's Orthodox Monastery in South Canaan, PA, for the 105th annual Memorial Day Pilgrimage.

On Thomas Sunday, April 26th, members of Christ the Savior welcomed baby Constantine, newly born child to Michael and Katherine Cook, to the church family. Following the Divine Liturgy, we had the customary egg hunt for the children. All the cameras were out for this great event!

On Sunday, April 19th, the faithful of Christ the Savior Mission celebrated the Lord's Resurrection from the dead. Following the Midnight Service (Nocturns, Matins, and Divine Liturgy) everyone shared in a festal meal. We at Christ the Savior greet you all with the joyous proclamation from the empty tomb: Christ is Risen!

During the week of April 12-18, the faithful gathered in church for the liturgical commemorations of Christ's Passion:  His voluntary sufferings, crucifixion, and burial.

On Palm Sunday, April 12th, the faithful gathered to celebrated the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. On this day, we also formally welcomed Bruce Eckerd into our community by enrolling him in the catechumenate. May the Lord bless him and all those seeking entrance into the Heavenly Jerusalem!

On Thursday, April 9th, members of the parish gathered at the church to prepare for Palm Sunday and Holy Week. In addition to cleaning, palms and pussy willows were prepared for the faithful to hold on Palm Sunday. Many thanks to those who helped!

On Thursday, April 2nd, the Inquirers Class, as part of a general introduction to Orthodox Christianity, took a field trip to Washington DC and Baltimore to visit various Orthodox churches.

On Monday, March 23rd, Carole Boris departed this life after fighting a long and valiant battle against cancer. Now her sufferings are over and her soul is commended into the Lord's hands.  We ask your prayers for the newly departed Carole, her husband Mickey, and their entire family.  May her memory be eternal!  May her soul dwell among the Righteous!

On Sunday, March 22nd, the faithful of Christ the Savior gathered for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy during which were sung special hymns in honor of the Precious and Life-creating Cross of the Lord. "Before Thy Cross, we bow down in worship, O Master!  And Thy holy Resurrection, we glorify!"

On Sunday, March 8th, with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Jonah, the 2009 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2009 Council, George Hamaty was elected Junior Warden, Michael McFarland was elected Treasurer, and Jen Alexion was elected Secretary. May the Lord bless them all!

On Thursday, January 22nd, members of Christ the Savior journeyed to the nation's capital to participate in the March For Life. The March for Life is an annual pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in Washington D.C. on the anniversary of the decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. This year marks the 35th occurrence of the March.

On Sunday, January 18th, Christ the Savior Mission gathered for its Annual Meeting with nearly 30 members present. Reports were heard, the 2009 budget was passed, and a list of names for service on the Parish Council was gathered for submission to the diocese. Highlighting the meeting was discussion on the possible acquisition of an 18-acre estate. This led to the Finance Committee being commissioned to conduct a feasibility investigation. Many thanks to all who participated in the meeting!

On Sunday, December 28th, the Sunday before the feastday of St. Basil the Great (January 1st) we kept the custom of the Vasilopeta. This year the coins were received by Frank and Susan Pappas (one coin each!). May the Lord grant them many blessed years!

On Thursday, December 25th, the faithful gathered to celebrate the birth of Christ according to the flesh. We at the Mission greet you all on this great feast and extend to you our prayers and best wishes for this Holy Season. May the blessings of the New Born Savior be yours at this time and throughout the coming New Year!

On Tuesday, December 16th, members of the Mission began work decorating the walls of the church. Todd Leasure, who works as a local artist, headed up the project and he was assisted by Paul St. Germain. More information is coming as the project continues!

On Sunday, December 14th, two excellent seamstresses from our parish, Diane Evanusa and Nada McFarland, sewed new white liturgical covers - just in time for Christmas! May the Lord reward them for their efforts!

On December 6th, we celebrated the feast of St. Nicholas, the Wonder-worker and Archbishop of Myra. Following Friday Vespers there was a short film about the Saint, and following the Saturday Molieben and Sunday Divine Liturgy, the children of the parish received golden coins in his honor.

On Wednesday, November 12, 2008, His Grace, Bishop Jonah of Fort Worth was elected Archbishop of Washington and New York and Metropolitan of All America and Canada at the 15th All-American Council of the Orthodox Church in America.

On Sunday, November 2nd, the Feast of the Unmercenary Healers and Physicians, special prayers and a blessing were offered for those in the medical and curative disciplines.

On Sunday, October 5th, Fr. Valery Schemchuk, from St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington DC, served for Fr. John who was away in NJ, celebrating his father's 30th Anniversary of ministry at Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Manville.  Many thanks to Fr. Valery for making the trip out to our Mission and for leading us in the Divine Services!

At the Annual Parish Meeting on Jan. 21, 2007, the Finance Committee was commissioned to conduct a feasibility investigation regarding the purchase of land for future parish use. On Sunday, Sept. 21st, there was a Special Parish Meeting to hear the results of this investigation.

On Monday, September 15th, the annual Assembly of the Diocese of Washington and New York was held at Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church of South River, New Jersey. Representing Christ the Savior Mission were Fr. John Parsells and Michael McFarland.

On Sunday, August 31st, prayers were offered and a special blessing extended to teachers and students on the occasion of the new academic year. Two awards, St. George and Chi-Rho, were also bestowed on Christopher Smith for his study of the Holy Orthodox Faith through the Eastern Orthodox Scout Program.

On Friday, August 8th, our new signs were installed by the side of Route 26 and on the side of our building.  Our existing sign was been taken for modification and refurbishment and will then hang on the front of the building.

On Friday, August 2nd, new icons and a cross were installed on the Royal Doors. This completed a lengthy project headed up by two talented and devoted carpenters who are members of the Mission and whose namesakes are the Apostles Peter and Paul. May the Lord bless them for their labors!

On Sunday, July 20th, the feast of the Prophet Elias, there was a blessing of automobiles. It is customary to have this blessing on or near the feast of the Prophet Elias who ascended into the heavens in a fiery chariot. (2 Kings 2:11)

On Sunday, June 29, 2008, the feast of the American Saints and the Apostles Peter & Paul, the faithful and friends of Christ the Savior had a Parish Picnic at the rectory. The weather held out, allowing for some cool time in the pool. Many thanks to all who participated, helping to make the day truly enjoyable!

On Saturday evening Troy (Paul) Duker was welcomed into the Orthodox Church through the Mysteries of Holy Baptism and Chrismation. Troy assumed the name of Paul in honor of his patron Saint, the Holy Apostle Paul whose feast is celebrated on this day. May God grant His newly-illumended servant Paul many blessed years!

On Friday, June 20th, new icons of the Mother of God and Saint John the Baptist were installed in our altar.  These icons together with the existing icon of Christ behind the altar table form what is called the ‘Deisis’ – the Greek word meaning intercession since the Theotokos and the Baptist are depicted making continual supplication for us before the Throne of Christ.

On Sunday, June 15, the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast of Pentecost which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles fifty days after the Lord rose from the dead. As is customary, the Vespers for the Day of the Holy Spirit together with the Kneeling Prayers were served immediately following the Divine Liturgy.

On Monday, May 26th, a small contingent from the Mission made its way to St. Tikhon's Orthodox Monastery in South Canaan, Pennsylvania, for the annual Memorial Day Pilgrimage.

On Sunday, May 4th, an Egg Hunt was offered for the children of the parish. Though the competition was at times fierce, a good time was had by all!

Throughout Holy Week the faithful gathered at the liturgical services to be with the Lord during His voluntary sufferings, death on the Cross, and burial in the Tomb. Then early in the morning on the first day of the week, they gathered to witness to the Lord's resurrection from the dead. We, the faithful of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Delmarva, greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen!"

On Sunday, April 20th, the faithful celebrated the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem, the feast of Palm Sunday. In remembrance of this day, and with anticipation of the Lord's victory over death on Holy Pascha, we carry palms and pussy-willows.

On Sunday, April 6th, with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Herman, the new Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2008 Council, Stan Alexion was elected Senior Warden, George Hamaty was elected Junion Warden, and Susan Pappas was elected Treasurer. May the Lord bless the new 2008 Council members and officers!

On Sunday, March 30th, parishioners gathered at the Evanusa professional kitchen to make kielbasa as a fundraiser for the Mission. A good time was had by all! We can't wait to taste the fruit of their labors!

On Thursday, March 20, 2008, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, together with OCA clergy from the Diocese of Washington and New York, served a Memorial Service for His Eminence, Metropolitan Laurus, newly-reposed First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, at Holy Trinity Monastery, Jordanville, NY. Hymns and responses were chanted by singers from Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary. Fr. John was pleased to represent Christ the Savior Mission at this solemn service.

On Sunday, March 2nd, Allen Maxim Oganyan, son of Maxim and Svetelena Oganyan, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Allen Maxim, his parents, and his sponsor, Artim Oganyan many blessed years!

On Saturday, March 1st, Alexander Parsells, son of Fr. John and Mat. Emily Parsells, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Alexander, his parents, and his sponsors, Protodeacon Paul Sokol and Sophia Tarpley many blessed years!

Before the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, February 24, our newly installed set of large (18"x24") festal icons were blessed. Following the service, Peter Polychronos, a representative of IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) offered a presentation of the SCOBA sponsored agency.

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Mission was held on Sunday, February 10th. In addition to reviewing the reports of the past year, passing the budget for 2008, and making nominations for this year's Parish Council, discussion was also held on ways to expand the Mission.

On Sunday, February 3rd, our newly expanded choir sang the Divine Liturgy together for the first time. Also, debuting on this day were our newly fashioned icon and candle stands.

On Sunday, January 27th, Isabella Georgiana, daughter of Gerald and Camelia Milite, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Isabella, her parents, and her sponsors, Michael and Nada McFarland many blessed years!

On Sunday, January 20th, Todd Leasure, Michael McFarland, and Paul St. Germain entered into the Orthodox Church through Holy Chrismation. We congratulate them and their families and friends on this special day. May the Lord continue to guide and bless them in all things!

On Thursday, January 10th, Christ the Savior Orthodox Church launched its newly redesigned website.

On the weekend of December 29-30, 2007, the Mission celebrated its first services at its new home at Vines Creek (Dagsboro, Delaware). On Saturday evening before Vespers the church was blessed, and on Sunday morning the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated.

On Sunday, November 4, 2007, a Special Parish Meeting was held at Christ the Savior Orthodox Church. The meeting was called to discuss the 2008 Budget and the future home of the Mission.

During the Special Parish Meeting of November 4, 2007, the members of Christ the Savior Mission decided unanimously to move the Church to Vines Creek, Delaware, where another rental facility would serve as the Mission's home until such a time as land could be purchased and a permanent church be built.more information >

On Sunday, October 28th, there was a special coffee hour / baby shower for Gerald and Camelia who are expecting their first child this November. May the Lord bless them with all things necessary for happiness and salvation!

On Thursday, August 16th, Christ the Savior Mission celebrated its patronal feast, honoring our Lord's Image Not-Made-By-Hands. This image is one of the earliest icons witnessed to by Church Tradition and is a reminder for all the faithful that we are called to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ, Who is Himself the revelation of the invisible Father.

On the weekend of July 7-8, 2007, His Beatitude Metropolitan Herman, the Archbishop of Washington and New York, visited Christ the Savior for the celebration of the liturgical services, a meeting with the Parish Council, and a festal meal with all the faithful parishioners and visitors.

On Saturday, May 26th, Samuel (Symeon) Province entered the Holy Orthodox Church through Baptism and Chrismation.  We welcome Symeon with great joy!  May the Lord grant Him many blessed years!

On Friday, April 27th, Christ the Savior Orthodox Church was featured in the religion section of the Cape Gazette.

The services of Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Pascha were celebrated at Christ the Savior from April 1st through April 8th. Many parishioners, family, and friends gathered for these most solemn liturgical celebrations of the Lord's Passion, Death, and Resurrection. We at Christ the Savior greet you all with the joyous exclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!"

The Mystery of Holy Unction was served on Wednesday, March 28th, with nearly thirty people gathering to ask the Lord's healing and mercy through the sacramental anointing with Holy Oil.

On Saturday, March 17th, a small contingent of parishioners from Christ the Savior attended a Lenten Retreat held at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, MD.

With the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Herman, the new parish council was installed into office at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Sunday, March 11, 2007.

On Sunday, January 28th, Baby Jacob received Holy Baptism, becoming the newest member of our parish community and Christ's Holy Church. May God grant Jacob, his parent's Michael and Nada, his sponsors, family and friends, many blessed years!

On Monday, December 18th, a Bible Study was held at the church to consider the Nativity of Christ as told in Biblical Tradition and the film, "The Nativity Story". Sixteen people participated in the study and lively discussion was had. All are welcome to attend the upcoming Bible Studies to be held at the church in January and February of 2007.  Dates and study topics are forthcoming.

On October 28th, a Harvest Ball was held at the Golden Sands Resort in Ocean City, MD. The dinner dance was a splendid success, bringing together parishioners, long-time friends of the parish, and new supporters.

On Sunday, September 24th, the parishioners of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, held a special celebration in honor of Protopresbyter Daniel and Matushka Dunia Hubiak following the Divine Liturgy.

On September 9th and 10th, Christ the Savior Orthodox Church took part in the Ukrainian Festival held annually in Baltimore.  The parish's booth raised awareness of our Mission to the people of the Delmarva region, as well as funds, for the growth of the Mission.  Many thanks to those whose hard work made this possible!

On Saturday, August 26th, the Parrish's had their new home blessed. Following the house blessing, which was attended by family, friends, and parishioners, the Parrish's offered a barbeque.

On Sunday, August 6th, Christ the Savior Church welcomed Reverend John Parsells, a newly ordained priest from New Jersey, as her first fulltime pastor since her establishment in 2000.
